So my my 1974 1.6l stock Chevy LUV is sitting at 99985.6 km and I've been amped all week for it to go round the clock. Once she hits 000000 the plan was to give her a full overhaul. I've had it for nearly a year now and have changed the oil and filter, but that is about all thats happened under the hood.

This morning disaster struck. The 'C' light was flashing, I presume this is what is referred to as the GEN light? Then a loud bang and the engine cut out. Fuel pump is slightly louder than normal. There is alot of air in the filter, but it has been that way ever since I got it a year ago.

It starts first time, and then 10 seconds later it dies. If I rev the engine it dies ...

Anyway, from reading the forums, similar fixes have been round the altenator, wiring and / or fuel pump... I have a manual and will have a little play around as I can't drag her off to a mechanic til Sunday. If there is anything easy that I could look at over the next couple of days, please let me know.

Thanks!!!

Bear with me, I am merely female and not so great mechanically, but thought the LUV would be an easy place to start, hell, the electrics are even colour coded :)

If the truck is not charging then the fuel pump will not run.

yea..try having the battery/alternator checked....sounds like the fuel pump is not getting enough juice to supply the proper pressure...also make sure it has plenty of fuel..the guage may have stuck...
