That is neat. Sorta the same on the old cars. My dad had (and now my brother has it) a '58 Pontiac and the gas fill was hidden behind the left rear backup light.

Call me crazy, but my engineering sense tells me it's not a good idea to put a light bulb (ignition source) next to the fuel filler (fuel vapors always present). I'm just sayin'.

Fuel vapor + no oxygen in the tank = no danger
Light bulb + fuel vapor + atmospheric oxygen = danger

I'm just sayin :P

I don't think i want to put bigger marker lights on my LUV for fuel   but it's sure a trick way of hiding one.

one of the other guys from the site i got this said the same thing and then it was brought up about the caddy behind the light and all the cars that had it behind the plate where there where lights also... so i don't know , just thought it was a neat idea and would shear...

Some other GM cars had the gas fill behind the taillights too.

'56 chevy's filler were behind the tail light. I don't ever remember a Pinto type deal for them. But I see your point. Kinda like storing the toaster next to the shampoo in the shower. And no, this wouldn't work for a LUV, but I like the idea, if room permits.

The only problem with storing the toaster next to the shampoo is where would I put my radio?

I like the idea. I had an old plymouth with the gas filler coming in behind the license plate and there was lights mounted there for the Plate. I guess this could be a problem..who knows. A little customizing and you could make this work on a Luv.

didn't really mean for the luv as our lights are smaller. was meant for for the guys here that have the full size trucks and or just like custom stuff... but i guess if some one took the idea they could do like the 52 caddy my uncle had and mount the filler behind the left tail light.... just an idea

I concede, however, that it is a cool custom touch 8)

 You made a good point. It had never dawned on me that that is a possible spark source right at the filler neck. 8O My point was for surprisingly, all the way back to the 50's, it has not been an issue.

And yea.... I don't like you very much. JK

Maybe its just me, but so long as the install is done RIGHT, i dont see a problem with that.

Is it risky? sure, but then again there are many, MANY more radical (and more dangerous) modifications that are done.

And all of them are in the name of FASHION.

That's why i dont bother!

Personally, i like any modification i do to ANYTHING to have a more utilitarian function...

I'M just saying...
