Where can I get a book for a Chevy 4.3L V6? I need all of the torque spec's and such. I was looking for one like 'How to Build a Small Block Chevy'.

Well, depending on the year, AllData has online subscriptions that you can buy for a particular vehicle. I think they only go back to '81 though... otherwise, I'd have it for my LUV. That place has everything you'd ever wanna know.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I have bought several SHOP MANUALS from E-bay and they haven't been expensive at all. I like them alot better than Chiltons or Haynes. They have about everything in them you can imagine. Just need to know the year of the engine or vehicle you're working on.

You guys have a knack for causing more questions than you anwer. Now I have to break that vacuum between my butt and this chair, go outside, look all over the engine for identification numbers/markings, walk back inside, sit down and get that butt vacuum going again, turn my computer back on, put my glasses back on, and research what engine I really have! Jiminy Frickin Cricket I have a LOT to do.
The engine was in an old LUV I bought in Florida that was 'rust on wheels'. I have no idea what vehicle it came out of. With luck it will be like a small block Chevy and I can break down the number one the rear of the block. Thanks for steering me in that direction.

I believe it is an 84 or 85, Rick, it was carbed. Look for the casting numbers and then try Mortec.com

Thanks. I have spent about three hours researching it on the internet and come up with conflicting information. One syas it is a 3.8 L but the firing order says it has to be a 4.3L. Plan to drop the oil pan tomorrow and take a look at the crank to make the final determination as only the 4.3 has some kind of 30 degree offset in the crank. At least that's what I come up with. The casting number is misleading as it isn't where these sites say it should be and it is cast into the block and not stamped. V8's sure are a lot easier to work with and on, and I sure hope this V6 dosen't bite me in the ass!!!

Pretty sure it is a 4.3, the 3.8's I've seen don't have that type of carb...

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

Just remember...the more answers you come up with from the questions we cause just adds to your total knowledge bank.  Since it isn't a vortec or TBI then I would imagine a manual from '86 back would cover the carb'd version if it's between there and '84.

Wish I had the money. I will have to build mine by getting one piece per month (within reason).
As soon as I find out exactly what year V6 I have I will let you know about those books guys.
