Here's some pics of my $200 1979 Luv project. After much electrical troubleshooting I got it up and running only to find out that the #3 cylinder was dead - no compression. Pulled the motor and took the head off to find at least one bent valve. Everything else looks good. Just dropped off the cylinder head at the machine shop and should have it back in a week. I couldn't find an engine gasket set locally, so I ordered one off of the internet. Here's some pics of the progress so far...

That's alot of progress. Are you going to rebuild the engine completely or just pulled it to do other work in the engine compartment?

Dang... that's a wonderfully clean truck for Minnesota. Very little rust for something that old... survived the road saltings.

The engine only has 62,000miles, so I'm going to roll the dice and see if I can get it up and running without a full rebuild. I pulled it because I was expecting the worst, but after teardown I was pleasantly surprised to find that it all looks good. I was toying with the idea of putting my '78 engine into this one and going with a V8 in the '78.

Yea, arcades and pinballs are another hobby. Lots of fun! Especially the pinballs.

Just heard back from the machine shop and I should have my head back on Friday. Now I just have to wait for my gasket set to arrive as nobody local has one.

I thought it was my garage at first: Pinball Machine (I've got a Laser Cue), Mame machine ( I went with the table top model), Chevy luv truck, license plates on the wall and an engine hoist in the way.

You guys have enough room in your shops for arcade games? I'm currently walking between vehicles in mine since I pulled the parts truck in there to swap the engine. No Room!

Well, I got the head back from the shop only to find that they removed the cam sprocket alignment pin. So I'm on hold because of a very small part. Anyone got one? :D Hopefully they will have it laying around somewhere when I call on Monday. Not sure why they would have had to remove it?

Make sure you replace the timing change and adjuster. I have even replaced the guide part.... You do not want the chain to break... There go your valves...I am not trying to say you were not going to do that. I have been down that road more than once

With my old 4x4 the engine "had" to removed to get to that stuff. I know it can be done with out pulling the engine, but it was easier for me after working days to get the pan and everything lined up and never did. I did not replace the tensioner and it went bad-locked up, and there went the whole thing again... Replace it all is my mantra on this engine.

6 valves the first time, 4 the second time.
