Dude get a shop manual, there is a step-by-step in there. Sounds like it'll be a good experience for you, and fortunately taking things apart is easy compared to putting them together.

if you are going to pull the entire motor out, why not just do it as that: an entire motor? from what i'm seeing, you shouldn't have any difficulty unbolting the trans and the motor mounts and just pulling it straight up. just a thought

Without standing over mine looking at it and with my manual in the shop here's what I can say.

Drain your fluids
Remove radiator
Disconnect fuel line
Disconnect exhaust
Disconnect starter wires
Disconnect engine ground
Take the AC compressor loose from the engine brackets and wire it over to the fender wall or somewhere out of the way. DO NOT DISCONNECT your A/C refrigerant hoses!!!
Remove dust pan
Remove tranny to engine bolts
Connect lifting straps...cherry picker/chain hoist
Unbolt motor supports...remove engine.

If you have already removed your intake mainfold just make a bracket that will bolt to a manifold to Head hole with a bolt. If not just wrap a lifting strap around the front port and go with it. Make sure you remember/mark any vaccuum hoses, wiring and any other lines you might disconnect. I probably left something out but this isn't to tough of a job so just take a look and go slow during the removal and make sure nothing is still connected. I've left the engine ground connected on several engines and had to disconnect it during. It happens. Good luck

Karl

Probably a little unnecessary to post this (you likely already have the battery out of the truck), but disconnecting the battery is a good idea... ground first. Keeps ya from ruining stuff.

You can also write down what you have disconnected and removed for a sort-of "checklist"
for your re-installation.

Taking pictures also helps.

Good luck!

You can do it!
