With many thanks to TJ White I am getting all the parts together to change the upper control arms to isuzu trooper so bolt on ball joints can be used. Control arms came in today and everything else is in route. Dosn't look to bad to do.

Heres a pic off my 4wd 1980 Luv with Trooper upper control arm fitted, the ball joint has been (FLIPPED) fitted from underneath to allow more downward suspension travel.

weather has been sour here. rain and more rain.
job is about half done. everything was ok untill i went to remove lower ball joint. There ain't enough room to get it out. it and the drive axel cv joint try to occupy the same space.
the book says to remove the lower control arm but i have a stuck adjuster on the torsion bar adjuster and didn't want to mess with that right now. I finally found out that by removing the hub and taking the snap ring off the axel enough room can be nade to remove the ball joint, So the right side is done and the next break in the rain i will work on other side.
Thanks to e-bay i found new ball joints as low as $3.00 Only one at that price darn it.

Check on the 81-82 luv and the 84-86 Troopers as they have the same ball joints

I finally got it all done. It drives funny. Camber is much different. Will have to get it aligned. Trooper upper control arms fit fine. Now I need to get the webber on it. It runs terrible when cold but ok when warm.

Be careful as the control arms are side specific ie;left/right Then leave the suspension at full droop (jacked up) and loosen the control arm cross shaft bolts you will see the bushings twist to the new position then tighten lower and drive.

On my 4X4 i got some spacers for the ball joints and at full droop the upper arms will not hit the top snubbers so i took them out.

In my case parts were for an 86 trooper. JY that I got the upper control arms from kindly marked them rt and left. The also looked almost new.

I thought you were meant to leave them loose and then do them up once you had the weight of the vehicle back sitting flat on its wheels. So its set in the 'neutral' position, when the vehicle is idle/standing there is no stress on the bushings. If you have it at full droop the weight of the vehicle constantly has twisting stress on the bushes, they will flog out quicker.
