Hello, looking for some advise on what I think is a problem with the power brakes. This past winter I pulled my motor out and had it completely over hauled. Now when I take it out for a drive the brakes are real hard to push and don't seem to stop the truck real fast. I checked for vacuum and there is plenty. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the power assist? My Luv is a 1979 4X4. Thanks..

The most likely would be the vacuum hose not hooked up, or if you sure it is, you might have a booster gone bad.
But if that were the case I would think you would have a major vacuum leak from inside the booster, and be able to hear it.

Thanks for you help, I checked for leaks and/or sounds of leaks and could not find any. Starting to wonder about the wheel cylinders?

You can have a good vacuum, but not enough volume due to a partly plugged hose. Pull the hose off with the engine running. It should run rough or even stall.

Yes, wheel cylinders do eventually crud up. Often by that time the mounting bolts and brake line are frozen too. May be easier to rebuild them in place if you can find kits. Don't bust the bleed screw. They are easier to work loose before you bust them.

Calipers need to freely slide in and out.

might be late but try the pump test. trun the truck off. pump the brake padel till the pressure builds up and the padel feels hard. then hold the padel down and trun the truck on. if the padel goes down slowly and smooth, booster is good. if it kicks back at you or more like a jurk. then its bad. but like rondog said if it is bad you should hear it in side the cab as well. just my 2cents. l8ter.
