Well when it rains it pours. I was thinking I would get my motor and tranny set in today and wahla. I bolted them together and thought I was doing good. I heard a crack when I was drawing the two tegether. I took them apart and I guess i didn't have the convertor in right. I broke both the little tabs the torque convertor slides over off on the thing inside.
I give up. This whole new effort has been a lemon from the get go. Guess now I need to take my not so new tranny anymore in and see if i can just get the part replaced. I am sure they will have to take it completely apart unless they can pull the pump unit out from the front and replace what I broke.
I just can't affford anymore stuff. I am going to have to think hard now about finishing again. Mow I have a great motor and nothing to do with it but look at it on the floor until I decide what to do. I have never in my life been through thi much agony on any of my projects. I am at a loss as what to do more so now than ever.
My motor problems allready set me back way too much. Now this.
Wonder if my frame with the coil overs is worth 400 with the s-10 rear. Am really just on the edge now of getting out of the vehicle stuff for good. My time and money is worth much more than what I am getting out of it. maybe I just got in too much of a hurry but seems as if anything that could go wrong has. Hate to think what will happen if i continue. Hell the motor will probably blow to pieces the first time I get to drive it.
Might be time to cut my losses and get out of my truck and motor what I can.
I simply can't take anymore setbacks and frustration/ :x

The pump can be moved without a complete disaasemble of the tranny. Shame it happened..

I have two extra 700r4'swith the same shaft. Guess I'll take my new one in and see if they can take it out and use and a different pump or just get another one.
i have too much invested toturn back now. i would never get my money's worth by letting it all go. Just have to grin and bear it and keep peddlin.
Just like the wife says it is only money. :esurprised :ewink

If you did not turn it over, then they could just remove the pump and replace the pump gear set. If you turned it over then you most likely have ground the gear into the aluminum housing and it's junk.

Always turn the converter numerous times untill it has dropped back. It will almost touch the pump cover. On chevrolets you should have approx 1" between the bellhousing flange the the pads that bolt the converter to the flywheel. Never draw an automatic trans up to the engine. It should go up and the converter spin. One exception is fords which use a stud system. You should always need to move the converter up to the flywheel.

Hope hasn't been turned over/ Still on the floor in front of the truck. Gonna check some shops today and I also found some on ebay and th eprice isn't bad. The removal toll is around 100 dolars though. If i go to a 13 vane they are fairly evpensive.

No sarcasm, my wife is my biggest supporter on getting it done because she knows how much I love the little truck and have put too much time and money in it to j ust give it away. Plus she wants some of the money I am spending foe her stuff.
:P This thing has been my only outlet since I don't play music anymore. Like they say behind every man is a good woman. Sometimes though they stand behind you with a whip LOL :ebiggrin

Well now I haved a dilema. I took the tranny in and it is crap. Come to find out my nice new rebuilt bargain I got was junk on the inside. Used clutches and junk in the filter etc. Guess the convertor came apart after only 20 miles of driving when it was in the little s-10 I had before the motor went bad.
The pic i showed of it on here I guess was not as good on the inside as the out. Anyway the thing in the middle was cracked in two also and there was a lot of scaring on the part were the convertor slides in.
Since I have it out they will rebuild it and use my new 10 inch convertor for 600 and make it non electric lockup with a checkball of sorts and set it to lockup hydaulically at the rpm I want. Beats me
I can get a rebuilt 350 plus a new 2500 stahl for 430 but will have to relocate my tranny mount I made. This won't be driven far on any highway so I wonder if I should go back to the higher 1st geared 350 since I have 3:73 gears anyway or still opt for the 700r4 with the lower 1st gear for launchs. Will also have to redo my shifter from 4 speed back to 3 speed shift. Any suggestions. i know with a 350 I won't need the tv cable or adapter for my carb to set it at the right angle were it hooks up to the throttle lever but will I have enough vaccuum for shifting ok on the 350

Decisions decisions.

If you're going to be running a bigger rear end and tires, by all means go with the 700r4. We use to put a switch on the 12v supply line to the trans to be able to lock out the lockup converter when needed.
Unless you're running a race manual shift TH350 (not Transgo) I would use both the TV and vacuum. They work best hand in hand and you don't need to jack up the line pressure at all, in fact you can lower it, if the tranny is clearanced and built right. Get the small vacuum can with the red strip as it's adjustable.

Well I opted for the 700r4 . Will get it back tomorrow from a good shop here in time, Should be , repeat should be better than before. Had the corvette servo put in which it wasa supposed to have allready but didn,t and will stay with electric lockup setup. These guys are real good on the 700's and I have had tranny's built by them before. Anyway maybe by this weekend i will have everything back in. This time I will take my truck down when it is driveable and let them set the tv cable. Maybe I messed the the other up by doing it myself. they say it doesn't take much to burn one up if it is wrong. Did everything by the book though.
Anyway, here we go again and will see what happens. Just need my 750 holley yet which I hope to get this week.
