If you look in my sig, can you tell what kind I have? Were they stock for a 79? I'm trying to decide if I should get new rims or try to restore these. I've worked on them for a few hours at a time, they really clean up nice, but they just rust right back up and I don't really have all that kind of time.

And I'm trying to determine what kind of wheels to look for, how big can I go on my truck? I'd like 17's, but is that possible?

Those are an aluminum wheel from the 70/80s. IDK who actually made that style. Are they rusting or oxidizng/dulling?

Have you tried the Mother's PowerBall and Power Metal polish for aluminum? Worked great for me, I have cast aluminum wheels on my big truck. Saves a ton of labor.

I've worn out a couple power balls. I saw a commercial today about the power cone. Might work better for tight places.
I use other kinds of polish, but the sponge on the end of a drill is a great idea.
Wish I had thought of it. I'd be a millionaire.

I don't know what kind of wheels you have, but I would be interesed in buying them if you decide to sell them.

I don't think that you would have a problem running a 17" rim...or 18" for that matter. It is going to have to do with the back spacing and rim width though...that I can't help you with, but I'm sure that someone else can. There are people with 20" wheels under their LUV.

Hey skypayne! Didnt you almost buy my rims from me at one time? Im the dude that worked at co springs airport.
catman is right, they are hurricanes. I had them on my 280z and loved them. Yeah they are a pain to keep clean. You know what to do? Go to autozone and pick up Eagle 1 Rough Cut wheel cleaner. It actually has our rims on the front label. GREAT STUFF! You wont be disapointed at all! watch getting the stuff on your skin though. Theres alot of acid in the product :D

Btw I like your center caps but you wouldnt believe how cool they look without the center caps in. It kinda gives them a sweet racing look

A lot of different wheels were made like that. I think I had some that were Western Wheel, early '80s. Six lug on my 63 Chevy truck. Most wheels are clear coated now. Get them cleaned up real good and then paint them with a clear wheel paint...

PS: nothing will stand up to dog pee for too long.

So I just got back to this post to see what you all said and I checked out pics of the general lee and they are exactly the same! The only minor difference is the center caps that I thought were not removable.

I blew a tire the other day and took it off and BLAM! Center piece comes right out. I'm stoked, need to get a new tire of course, but as soon as I do I am removing all of those center caps because these wheels are sweet. Just need to get that cleaner! thanks for all the info and tips guys
