Well, now, that dusting is a pretty bold statement. Somewhere on here is a thread of a similar project, he got started, but hasn't updated in a while...

A friend of mine back in the mid 80's had a Mustang with a nice 2.3L engine. This shouldn't be that hard to fit under the hood of a Luv and I bet with some work will turn a solid 60 MPH in the 1/4 mile. Good luck!!!

You have made a very interesting challenge and I agree with a
previous post, that a lot of the guys running Chevys, Olds, Buicks, even Cadillacs will be glad to take you up on it
But here are a few facts about small block Chevys, and 5.0 Fords.
Weight of a small block Chevy is 530 #
Weight of a small block Ford is 480#
Width/length: Chevy is 26" X 26", w/ short water pump.
Ford is 24" Wide X 28" long.
Then there is the problem with Chevy rear sump oil pan VS Fords front sump pans.
I"m just mentioning the 5.0 (302) VS Chevy's 350, I don't have any idea what problems you will run into with the later Ford modular engines, so I can only wish you good luck!
Please keep us informed on how your project is going?

Well ur statement is pretty bold and as soon as im done with my 77 step i would be happy to meet you halfway between our hometowns at a dragstrip and race ya... I think i will be running in the high 9 to Really low 10 second range in the 1/4 mile

Actually not that difficult. I did several 302's in the 70's, also a 351W and the tough one was a 351 Cleveland. Would not reccomend that one.
On the 302's, 351W you can use the stock rear sump pan. The actual installation length difference is 1", with the short early right side inlet WP. You will have to go to custom headers, there was no manifold back then that would work. Using 1 5/8 tubes you can get them all under the truck, just like the LUV's.
I think not sure, memory fading (OLD Rob), we modified a set of courier adapters for the front and modified a TH350 adapter in the rear. I built the headers all custom.
Transmissions were C-4 behind the 302's, one four speed and C-6 behind the 351W and Cleveland. FYI there are three big block 351's. Small is the 351W, next is the 351 Cleveland and the bigger one was the 351 Midland engine. 351 Midland and 400 Midland are the same external size.
Today a 347CI can be a stout power source, if bilt right.

Well you certainly got a lot of reaction! Just hope this wasn't an April Fool's Joke?
Ol Rob gave you a whole catalog of information, and I have found him to be a very reliable source,
Again, wish you the best of luck, I personally had a lot of fun with my Paxton Supercharged 302 65 Ranchero, but nothing I have ever built will hold a candle to my sbc 383 powered 78 Luv!

One of the truly wonderful things about Luv's is their versatility! They were tough as h... in their original form, but now they can be anything their owners want them to be! Very few vehicles have the strong frame that these little trucks do, subsequently just about any engine/transmission will not only fit, they will turn it into a outstanding performance vehicle, a show truck, or a unbelieveably fast race truck!
Good luck on your Ford swap, as Old Rob said, he installed several small block Fords into Luvs way back in the 70s!
Looking forward to hearing how your swap is going, keep us informed.

If I was to go with the Ford power train I would be looking at the 351W engine.

Good choice! The Ford 351 engines can be stroked clear up to a 427 and these engines have all kinds of special performance equipment available at a reasonable cost.
