Ok, here is the last thing i need to do before deciding to purchase the 1974 Luv someone in my club has. I am having a hard time finding the orignal motor for it (1.8L).

My question is, what are some motors, and cars i should be looking for to get a donor motor for the truck that will be not to difficult of an install?

I have a 4.3L CFI Votec motor that is in my blazer right now that i would be willing to swap in if it was not to difficult to fab. in. I am not that much of a fabricator.

All the body work is done on the exterior and has already been primed. There is no motor or Transmission in the Luv as of right now, so I am working with a clean slate here. So as much help as i can get on what i should do, the more likely I will end up purchasing this truck.

Here are several pix that i have seen of the Luv so far.

Thanks for whatever input you can give me.

**Edit i should have stated that most of the parts are there minus a few parts
Bench seat
Windshield
Back Window
Head Lights

That is an intersting way to hold your canopy down! 8O

Looks like a good project but I would be a little worried about the snow inside the cab getting into the dash area. :esurprised

As for motor options, its all up to your ability and pocketbook, there a hundreds of posts on this topic by using your handy little "Search" button. 8)

Its the first winter its been outside like that...and i would be redoing the whole inside, so hopefully there should not be a problem about the snow....hopefully

***Edit ok i did some searching heres what i found as ones that should just bolt up easy:

rezkid wrote:

here are your other engine options though...as far as stuff that will bolt up to your tranny

Isuzu G200Z (bigger version of the G180Z already in there...shares a lot of the same parts)
Isuzu 4ZD1 (2.3L motor offered in the 86-87 Trooper and 87-95 Pup (also available in the base model Amigo))
Isuzu 4ZE1 (2.6L and fuel injected version of the 4ZD1...can be made carby by using a 4ZD1 intake manifold)

the later 2 options will bolt to your tranny but you'll have to mess around with flywheel/clutch combos to get it to work.

edit...forgot to add that versions of the G200 and 4ZD1 were offered in the Isuzu Impulse as well...little bit higher performance compared to their truck counterparts, but still the same basic motor

However this is talking about just bolting up to the stock tranny so if any of these would not bolt up to the stock motor mounts please someone inform me. If I buy one of these I will just end up buying the tranny connected to it, so if any of the trannys that are connected to a certain truck/car on the list that i should not use in the Luv, please let me know.

Forgot to add earlier that it is a 2x4 and going to stay that way. I want it to become a DD, so I am not looking for that much power, the heaviest the Luv would see is my 2008 Schwinn Sport 50 moped.

I have a good '75 engine thats disassembled I have all the parts just needs to be put back together with new rings and gaskets at the most. I swapped it out for a V8 so it is a runner, I have it in dry storage as well.

Just found out the truck does NOT have a drive shaft. So i added a wanted ad in the classifieds on here looking for a drive shaft. or is there another option on getting a drive shaft for this truck?

****Edit Just found a 1978 Luv that needs the motor fixed in it, but is a manual transmission. with a 2nd motor and transmission with it. Would it take that much to get the 78 stuff in the 75?

This truck at one point was owned by a member one here how there is the forums logo sticker on the back window, which the guy said the owner he bought it from had plans on fixing it up.

This truck (1978) came with:
2 motors
M/T
3 Carbs.
Leather Tonneau Cover
nice interior (minus seat which is ripped in the center).
Brand New Dash replacement cover still in its package.
New molded carpet
Original side mirror and newer mirrors already on the truck.
and 3 milk crates filled with misc parts.

Do you guys think i did well for $200?

I did not get a chance to take any pictures of the parts truck yet, that is just the one the guy put on Craiglist. Friday when I got back to my fathers woodshop (where im storing it) i will take some pictures and if weather permits, I will be picking up the 1975 Luv on Sat.

I think you did real good!! I was looking at a Luv around the same year and she is wanting $1000 for it. Which I think is about $800 too much.

Forgot to add I am paying $400 for the 1975 Luv.
and it is basically just a shell and the interior (inside his garage). But the body work is basically done which is the one part I am not a big fan of doing, which was a HUGE selling point to me.

And here is a quick photo shopped image of what i plan to paint the truck like.
