Heres the thing, I bought the truck last summer, it is a 1975 luv that has a Bar plate in the door that says that the motor is out of a 1969 impala with a 327 (thats no longer what is in it). The swap was originaly done in 1987 and it was certified by the BAR. It now has a pretty thirsty 350 in it. On the plate it has boxes checked off for a thermostatic air cleaner and a pcv. What is the process i need to take to get it registered. Do I need to take it to a smog only station? Will they have to put it on the sniffer? Is there some kind of paper work i need to get filled out? Who should i contact first?

Need some help guy, I want to get it into high gear before i take it to the track?

My understanding is this. The engine has to be the same year of newer than the vehicle you put it in and must retain all the smog equipment which came with the motor. Then you have to take it to a referee station and they will check the engine info to verify you have the correct year and smog stuff. They will do some testing and if all is well, they will put a new sticker in your door jam which will allow a regular smog station to know the swap was approved and they will then smog it.

This swap was done under the old laws. older motor is ok but it still has to have the smog equipment it had in 1969.

You should be able to put a thermostatic air cleaner and pcv on it and take it to any smog station for inspection. I dont believe they hook it up.

My BAR label says 1964 327 with an X in the pcv box. the referee says i dont care if it has a blower on it, as long as its a 327 (wink wink) with a pcv valve hooked up.

so basically as long as it has a small block and the parts marked on the BAR tag take it to any smog station.

Call the referree if you have any questions. they're the ones that issued that tag.
