O.K., so i got tired of searching and just have a quick question if anyone happens to know.

I already know i am getting a 1st gen s10 rear for the luv, to convert the rear to 5 lug and to also lower the rpms and raise top speed for hightway.

Guess what i need to know is what my current gearing is, and what gear ratio to look for in the s10 axles.

Does anyone know how or where to find what ratio i currently have? It's a 76, 2wd if that helps any. I'm assuming i should go to 2.x gears but not sure if I'm right.

And finally

You should get the Idea... Tag-stamps numbers are good if someone has not changed the gears out at some time.

Oh if it is a stock luv. Most were 4:11, the automatic came with a 3:73 or something like that
Other guys will know for sure.

Do not get a ratio that will not let the engine run at a rpm where their is enough power to pull the truck down. You could actually get worse fuel mileage.

Here you go.

It all depends on the year for what gears came in the LUV.

72-75 ALL: 4.56
76-78 ALL: 4.10
79-80 4sp and Auto: 3.73
81-82 4pd: 3.42
81-82 Auto: 4.10
79-82 4x4: 4.10

Sounds like a swap with an 81-82 Luv with a 4 speed standard transmission's rear end would be the way to go. That should improve your gas mileage without bogging you down too much.

Now you just have to find one...lol
