Hi all!

I'm doing a project rig using '75 LUV drivetrain. Problem is the 4 speed trans is almost 36" long. That's about 10"-12" too long for what I'm doing. I did a search on trannies and only got confused.

Is there any shorter manual trans, 4 or 5 speed, that is a bolt-up to the engine? Can a much shorter output shaft & housing be swapped onto this trans? This one is the integral bellhousing version 4 speed, intake/exhaust are on same side of OHC engine so I guess G180.

Also, anybody happen to know if a late 70's Toyota pickup engine/trans is a shorter package? Thanks!

Wheres reverse???

Over next to 4th gear???

If it is its the same length as all the 4 and 5 speeds.

Sorry to burst your bubble.
Why do you need such a short trans for???

Bob.

On this trans reverse is over by 2nd gear. This tranny is roughly 35" long, integral bellhousing. Not sure of trans model, truck is '75.

I've been reading this site for tranny and rear end swaps, and it's apparent the parts will fit from an Isuzu Pup 80's. That's the way I would go. Heck, so far the only thing I've done with the tranny since I got my LUV is change the fluid. I was surprised when I found out the fluid is supposed to be 30W. That's for the 4-speed tranny I have now. The rear end took 90W. I changed that fluid awhile back too. Wow. That's a big accomplishment. I know, I know. Flame suit.

The key sentence was "the intake and exhaust is on the same side", which tells you a pup trans will not fit. You are stuck with a stock trans.

Well Jimmie D, looks like the thread's been sabotaged by the LT elite. If you've wisely been reading the six year history of posts left by LUV truck owners you've probably noticed that the very vocal jokers here are the same ones who have all the answers. You just have to roll in the dung awhile. :signiagree

What the....

His question was already answered before all of that pointless babbling you added all about you and your truck - as usual. But hey - at least you didn't add a bunch more of your page-hogging huge pictures...lol

Since his exhaust/intake is on the same side, it's obviously an early version Luv engine/tranny and nothing newer by Isuzu will fit. Case closed.

As for the so-called "LT Elite" you are refering to making fun of you...we really don't need to. Your posts/threads are pretty laughable all on their own enough.

Not to be a a$$

A VW forum I am on has a sticky post on the index that says how to use the search feature. I think it is titled "the search button is your friend" or something like that....

Any one want to write it....

Now the smart a$$ remark.

Maybe it is too much nitrous around the computer.

The "LT elite" have been here a long time. The know-it-alls never last long.

Stop the bickering and the wise-ass remarks, or I will stop them.

Locked.

Many new users might have difficulty trying to use the search button, because there is a large amount of data on this site. A search on transmission upgrade might return 1000 results. Users that have been here a long time and are willing to help would hopefully search the board and provide a link to a helpful page. Replies that simply read "use the search button" are not in the spirit of finding new information. A new member with previously unheard information about a transmission swap is not going to search the site and bump every topic that mentions it. However, a question posted recently may get new insight on an old topic.

If someone wants to take the time to write a bunch of articles, I don't have a problem sticky-ing them. Have fun.

Case in point. I searched the site and couldn't find any information on different transmissions of different lengths. The search button didn't help. Read the whole post before jumping on the search button bandwagon.

I would suggest not viewing a topic if that is your only response. Someone will help, or the person will figure it out on their own.
