If you are to swap a V6 in would the radiator support still have to be cut up? Will the Hooker motor mounts fit a 4.3l swap? I am trying to decide what swap I would like to go to a V6 or V8. I am not trying to make a powerhouse just something that would run better than stock.
Also does anyone have pictures of a V6 swap?

thanks for the info, one other question. If i am right the 4.3l v6 takes the same transmission as the 350 does so will the Hooker motor mounts work also?

I don't think so. The way the tranny mates with the engine has nothing to do with the location/placement of the motor mounts on the chassis. They MIGHT be the same if both engines were offered in the same car elsewhere, bu tif the two are of different makes/models, it's anyones guess.

If you know of another vehicle that has the basic drivetrain you are looking at swapping in, you can measure from the bell housing forward to the existing motor mounts to get an idea of where they are located. Do this for both the V6 and V8 that you are thinking about and see if they match.

Thank You for the great information.

In the process of looking for a 4.3l V6 motor mount swap like the hooker one I came across this information.
"Chevy 90 degree V6: This block can either be the 3.8 (229) or 4.3 V6. These engines are identical to the Chevy V8 application with reference to bellhousing, starter, and flywheel. The oil pan has year differences like the Chevy V8 except with the 1997 & newer aluminum oil pan. Vehicles requiring oil pan modifications should not use this block. Motor mounts are also the same as the Chevy V8 with the exception of the location of the triangular bolt pattern in reference to the back of the block. The mount is approximately 4-1/2² closer to the backside of the block."

from this website http://www.tlc4x4.com/2000/Parts/tlc_engineinfo.htm

So it answered the question and I didnt have to get dirty this time. So I will say that the hooker kit will work with a "CHEVY" V6 swap just not a Buick V6 swap. It talks more about the diffrences on the website.

Just an FYI for anybody considering. :P

I've always heard that the 4.3 is basically a 350 with the front two cylinders cut off.
The motor mounts are a little closer to the back of the block, which is actually a good thing, because anybody who has swapped a small block into a LUV knows all about hammering away at the trans tunnel to make more room, or hammering away at the firewall so the distributor cap fits better. If the motor mounts are 4 1/2" closer, that means that the belhousing will be 4 1/2" farther forward, eliminating a need for alot of the hammering and/or cutting.

Hmm.... maybe I'll go with a 4.3 next time, it sounds a bit easier.

On the original post, with the 231, you can move the radiator in front of the support & there's plenty of clearance. This might not be the case with the 4.3, but at the worst you may need to fab some brackets in front of that support & use a larger radiator. I'd probably buy a new Griffin or Howe rad. from Speedway motors & use an external trans cooler with the automatic. My 75 with 231, 350t used the stock radiator and a ford P.S. cooler & did fine. Also, I never had to hammer out the firewall, etc for clearance, just had to move the Ebrake pulley bracket & heater diverter valve. This stuff was covered in an article in HotRod mag in the late 70's. They used the old 225 V6 & 4wd, but lots of info helped me out in my swap.

Just my 2 cents, check out the buick v-6's, many more performance parts avail, and is shorter than the chevy , front mount distributor, hedders avail with slight mods that you must do.I have the hooker mounts and I set the motor where I wanted it, an welded them in. I also cut out the front core support and fit in a HOWE aluminum rad, it was much easier.
I have been running a buick v6 for 15 years. My current combo is a 9 sec 244 ci aluminum block and heads with a t70 ball brg turbo, FAST efi, alchy inj, glide with a 5800 stall and a trans brake

I just bought a 72 Luv that already has a Buick 231 V6. I took it out for a drive the other day and it seem fine. I was on the freeway cruisin, then I got off and I hit some traffic and it stalled on me and it took forever to get started. It was as it was flooded, and when I finally got it going again it kept sputtering and dieing, but would start right up again. Now the previous owner said he just put a better fuel pump on there. IT is bolted to the side of the wheel well and Has a Mr Gasket emblem on it...I dont know much about these rigs. I had owned one years ago but it was the Isuzu engine...Also the fuel filter in lieing hoizontal would it make a difference if it was up and down (vertical). The reason I ask this is that I was watching it idle and it seem to be bubbling like it didnt have enough fuel being pump thru. I hope this makes sence. I dont want to drive it until It is better...any of you Luv guys have any ideas....I would appreciate it....
