I need any info available about alternatives for the rubber body mount bushings. What kits from other trucks (Toyota, Ford, GM) could be used?

In not to sure on the pre 81 but after that they are the same as the trooper.

Being the same as the trooper id say they were the same bit as the pickup right thru into the late 90's.

Check that out.

If you can get a pic of the Luv one post it up, ive got a few trooper ones lying about and im about to lift the cab off an 84 or 85 pup.

Cheers, Bob.

A friend of mine is redoing a 64 pontiac tempest and he is making his body mount bushing out of a Hockey Puck. He just takes a hole saw the same size as the orginal body mount and locks the puck on his drill press and he has a cheap replacement. They cost about a $1 or $2 each and they are universal fit. The stiffness is similar to a poly bushing. And you know if they can stand the beating of a hockey player they should last awhile.

Hockey puck? That's similar to an idea I had while in the outdoor store. I was considering using a couple of boat trailer rollers, lathed and cut down. Same idea, but the hockey puck would require less turning.

Then there is always UHMW, I can get my hands on sawmill chain pucks pretty easily. Anyone know anything about plastic density?

You need give.

The mount rubbers need to have enough flex. If they dont you will end up with cracks in the cab around the mounting holes.

The give I'm talking about is it will compress over time, letting the bolts work loose.

I was wondering this too, since I will need new floors welded into both the passanger and driver side. Unlike my other luvs just passanger side. I think Ill need new bushies too. Not sure.

Looking into wheels atm :D

Thats why the have a metal collar/tube in between the two washers. This is to preload the rubber but prevent it crushing too far.

With age you may end up with play in the rubber but the bolt will stay tight.
