I assume it's some kind of breather for purging the head.

On my stock manifold, there's a pressed-in 'bleeder' fitting. (It looks like it just allows a tiny bit of vacuum.) On my new Offy manifold, there's nothing.

I don't know whether to try to remove the fitting and somehow get it onto the new manifold, or just to plug the hose and forget it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The little hose pictured push fits onto a fitting on the under side of the stock aircleaner housing, its ok to block it off as it will pump out a little oil vapour.

Nope. It goes right where it already is. Into the manifold. It lets the manifold vacuum suck fumes out of the upper half of the eng. and into the combustion chambers.

Its actually part of the fuel vapour recovery. Its polution gear but not the type that makes motors go crap.

The G-series motor had no charcoal cannister they used the engine to deal with vapours.

I say air cleaner. In theory no open circuit vacuume source should be available to the carb. Especially not after the butterfly.

Thanks everyone, but I know where it goes. It goes to a vacuum 'bleed' fitting on the intake manifold. This fitting only allows a slow bleed of vacuum.

My problem is that I don't know how to connect it to my new offy intake. As Rodeobob said, I can't connect it to a full vacuum, and I don't really want to try to extract the pressed-in fitting from the old manifold and jury-rig it into the new one.

I'm thinking I'll just let the hose hang when I put the new manifold on.

I was just wondering if anyone else had done that.

Also, I was curious as to its function, since there seems to already be a PCV hose.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help.

It is the engine venting system. Draws vapors from the crankcase and valve cover, into the manifold for burning with the fuel mixture. It is a small metered orfice with no PCV valve used. The hose to the air cleaner is the fresh air inlet into the engine.

Ohhhh, OK.

That makes sense now.

Thinking this through, if I leave it hang, there's a possibility I could suck dirty air backwards through the hose into the engine, and then into the carburetor through the big hose.

Sounds like I should find a metered orifice and use it.

(If one had a dirty mind, they could see a lot of obsene innuendo in those comments. Lucky I don't.)

Thanks.

Ah, yes, the metered orifi. that makes sense.

(insert rude comment about wife)

Just plumb it in to the air cleaner between the cleaner and the butterfly/venturi. Should see enough suction to work well enough. No worries about dirt then.
