Getting burnt out working on my LUV. What should I do. Sell it or just pass it on to my boy or leave it set. Got a lot of time and work in it and the thing still looks like crap and not ready to run. Seems llike a losing or never ending battle. Always something else to do on it.
been messin with cars all my life, maybe it is time to move on to something else. :? :(

It can be frustrating working on any project for a long period of time, especially when you feel like you aren't getting anywhere. I think taking a short break from it will be a good thing.

Don't sell it though, unless you need the money. I've sold several projects in the past, only for each one to haunt me. The one that hurts the most was the 1963 Nova drag car I had. All it needed was to setup the rear differential and suspension, and I had to buy tires, and get it painted. I ran out of money at the worst time, decided that after working on the car for over 5 years, I would likely never finish it, and I was burnt out completely.

To this day I kick myself for sellin a car that was at least 95% complete, and for less money than I had in parts alone. Needless to say, the new owner got a steal of a bargain on an almost complete car with over $12,000 worth of new parts, not to mention all the blood sweat an tears that went into it. I sold it for $7,500. That was 3 years ago, and I still hate myself for it.

It's ok to step back, but really think about it carefully before you make any snap decisions.

I've found that when i'm getting burnt out there's a couple thing that help. 1, bury yourself in trucks like yours. I've been working on my bagged dually for a while, and when I get burnt I go to a truck show or hit up the dually website and look for motivational pics. Second, make yourself a list of what needs to be done and schedule yourself to do a couple of those tasks, and then the next. You'll have a better sense of accomplishment if you can actually check things off of your list that needed to be done.

That really sounds like a ggod plan. When I see a cool ride around town it does help to get back into a project. I was off work Tues and spent all day finishing my wiring and it gave a real sense of accomplishment and am ready to move on to the next.

Thanks

Please don't give up and sell it. Just take a break, and start again when you think it will be fun. I worked on mine and it seem like for ever to get it running. If you sell it, in 2 months you will want to start another project, and have to start all over saving money to build it. The fun will return if you give it time. :) :)

Set it aside for awhile and then determine if you want to sell it or fix it. You'll probably want to work on it again.

**** let me know if your going to sell it !!!! ***** :D :D :D :D :D :D

I wouldn't sell it. I was in the same position are in last year when I was redoing my interior. Once in a while I would get frustrated because nothing would go right, or would do something and would have to go back and redo it because it wasn't right or wouldn't work. And sometimes it was hard to get someone to help. I would just take a break for a day or two and sometimes for a week. At times I threatened to sell my truck. Now I got it done I am GLAD I didn't sell it. Take a break for a while. Keep your chin up.

Thanks for all the support. I haven't touched it for a week. I did work on it a couple weeks ago and got my wiring finished. Now I just go down and look at it. Will have to get some more pics of the cleaned up motor compartment and dash I am re doing.
Will not be working on it again for awhile. Gonna put a new tranny in my sons S 10, That will be a chore in itselff with the 400 in it. Actually it is mine but he gets all my stuff LOL. I told him I was thinking about selling the luv for 2,000 the way it sets. he had a fit but only because he wants it too.

I worked on VWs for about 15 years and got so tired of it! One day I woke up and just said..no more VWs and now all I work on is basically Mercury. I hate to see you give up on the Luv but sometimes one must make a change to keep life interesting. At least take a break before you sell it....give it some time....if you have no desire to work on it after a month then I say sell it and move on in life. It worked for me!!! :)
