I did mine, and I have been four wheeling it for about eight or nine months with no problem. It makes a world of difference in how good your truck will go.

if you don't want to weld it here's your second option

10 bolt Aussie locker

Thats a pretty expensive option.

You can also buy an air locker for the same diff. I think its dearer 8O But rememeber its pesos, well your dollar buys 80c or so.

I just stripped a pickup, took the chassis up to my mates place for his hotrod project.

The guy i got the truck off showed me a video of it in action. Welded diff G200Z, 2nd gear buronuts till the tyres popped.

He was avoiding another car he was doing burnouts with and went sideways into the gutter and smacked the rim really hard and broke the axle and buckled the rim hardcore. Id say the housing was bent too.

Then he showed me the the video of it doing 4th gear burnouts on the wheel with the un broken axle.

The wheel in the tray on the back had no tyre left it was just the beads around the rim. lol.

Id say if you know how to weld its pretty strong.

If you break an axle you wont be able to drive your truck. The axle needs to be supported by the center or the wheel just flops around on the bearing.

Early troopers were all meant to be LSD with the G200Z motor. It was an option with the 2.3L and std with the C223-T Diesel. Thats what i was told, not sure how true it is, im yet to find one and ive wrecked a couple. Apparently they were not very strong.

Bob.

I had a welded Dana 44 from a jeep in my luv that I tuff-trucked in the county fair. I had a chevy 305 in it. We just narrowed the tube on the long side of the axle, then got a spare axle from the short side of another axle.

I was really strong of course, because it was the Dana. As far as the welds holding though, I didn't have any problems with it. The only thing you might want to consider is how often it is driven on the street, as you will chew up tires faster if you drive on the street alot. Also, mine tended to "push" in a turn, like I would turn the wheels, but the truck kept going straight. I would have to feather the throttle to get the tires to spin and bring the rear end around.

However, that was a 2wd with alot of power, so a 4x4 would probably be different, I'm assuming the front wheels would pull you through the turn.

Bob...

ARB airlocker for the same axle runs around $800 USD...and thats not including install or air supply to run the thing. 8O

the Aussie locker is a bargain in comparison...a 12 bolt locker is also available, planning on getting one after I swap axles in the future...either that or say screw it and stick a Toy V6 8" under there
