A cherry bomb glasspak with a cheapo auto parts store muffler behind it will sound good when youget on it and still be quiet enough during normal driving so it won't piss off your neighbors or the cops.

If it's too free-flowing...you won't have enough back-pressure and you will lose some low-end torque.

(And it's not like a Luv has any to spare...lol)

A good Header and glasspack are always good. It its too loud, you're probably too old. :D

But if it really is too loud, you can throw a resonator tip on it, or an actual resonator before the muffler. You can get a good straight through one that won't hurt your flow.

As far as bolt on systems, if there are any out there, they'll probably be expensive. Last time I had any exhaust work done, it was $150 to bend and weld everything, that included collector and hangers. I just supplied the muffler. So if you can get roughly the same price, you can pick up a glasspack for around $25 at almost any autoparts store. So if you're just replacing pipe and muffler, you should be able to do it all for around $200. A header, resonator, etc. will be more of course.

Like I said before...free-flowing does not equal back pressure - and you have to have some back pressure in a Luv with a 4-banger to keep your low end torque. (That is unless you really enjoy driving a very loud gutless truck.)

A cheap glass pak with a cheapo muffler behind it works well and will last a long time. It provides enough flow while making sure that you have the right amount of back pressure. (FYI - I added a resonator tip on mine just because it sounded a little too much like a crappy fart-can ricer without it.)

The glasspak was about $20, the cheapo muffler was $25, and the resonator tip was about $30. A friend of mine and I used a wire-feed welder to put it all together in about 2 hrs.

BTW...anybody that has ever heard me and my truck crankin' on it or gettin' on the freeway knows I aint too damn old for a little noise...lol
