Other than a cage i don't think theres much more you can do, these frames are already a box design which are pretty darn stout.

A bit of re-enforcement on the fame (not a cross-member, more like a patch) on the bits right behind the cab would help a bit, it has been noted as the weakest point by some local people that have crushed these trucks a time or two, he said that's the first place all of them have bent, me and my dad have also seen them rust out there first before other areas....

If you run ladder bars with sliders(leaf spring) or coil overs you will be putting in one more cross member just behind the cab to mont the ladder bars. I used the 2X3 setup on mine and it is almost strait down from the back of the cab i will check and see if i have any picks.

i dont see a need for any other reinforcments. i have a full cage and can suport all for corners with 3 jack stands. 2 in the rear and 1 in the front on either side and the other side stays even. now thats pretty firm if you ask me.

The frame area, not the cross member, however the frame already is very strong, but that's the area that tends to rust out first if the frame has a major scale problem.

Idon't know about autocross, but I, as well as several of my friends, have had several Luv's in the tens with nothing more than slapper bars and 9 inch slicks. This was with 350 and 400 sbc's with a shot of NOS years ago. Unless you have a rust problem like Finalman mentioned, I'd just add the 12 point cage and forget about it...

If you plan on autocross, you better think about cutting the firewall out and moving your motor back about 6 inches,if not your in for alot of cone eating! You want 50/50 weight balance for autocross, and you wont be close where the motor is sitting now.

Autocross is a different type of racing. The setup is a whole different thing than street or drag racing. You will need to look at the SCCA web site and see what class your truck would run. They have added a few street classes so the F&F style cars can run, as they did not fit any class.

85 VW Scirocco DSP regional champ '90-'93
I still have it. It would now be run as FSP (Street Prepared)
It has not been a street driven car since it went to a xcross car in '89
It will kick the shit out of VR6 cars in the club I was in, but most were just peoples cars... With FWD cars you are getting it when you are up on "three wheels" in the corners. Outside rear wheel comes off the ground. Boy it sure was a kick in the butt.

I always liked the little Mazda Truck that came with a rotary in it. Most have gone to that rust bucket in the sky.

I saw a big block Camaro run. When our club rented a track for a day, one of the owners brought out his Viper SP car.... My son got a ride with him.... He was on it before he got his tires warmed up.... Looked like a tornado. My son must have set a record high on his puckamonator 8O (butt pucker gauge). It was very fast

Post related. Suspension is where your best buck can be spent.
