I will be using a few parts for my 80 , like the aircondition compressor, the front bumper, the grille, headlight bezles, the shifter and boot, the door panels and maybe the seat. And some other odds and ends i`m sure.

The engine and transmission are still good . But the engine has 165,00 miles on it. I have a brush guard with a Superwinch on it that would look good on your show truck ! The truck a has a fiberglass cap on it that someone may be interested in ? I may pull the engine and just lay it over in the corner somewhere until I can rebuild it.

It`s going to kill me to get rid of this truck, but i have to face reality, it is beyond restoration. I originally bought the 80 2x4 to use the cab and bed to restore my 4x4 , but i finally realized that its just too far gone. The frame is ready to collapse, it is so rusty.

So I decided to restore the 80 4x2 instead. It doesn`t look like it right now, but that truck is very nice. It is totally rust free and solid as the day it came off the boat. Too bad a drunk had to mess it up. Since I will be using many parts from my old 4x4, I guess in a way it will live on lol !

I might very well be interested in it for my daily driver/ work truck.
I can't change the show truck gotta keep it Original.

Any chance you would mind sending a pic of that brush guard set up your talking about?? Other than that looks like you have alot of fun ahead of you.
Thanks :D 8)

Wow! That rear bumper is just gone in the center! We just don't see rust like that out here in so Cal.
How many miles do you have on that thing?
It's cool that you got it new, but too bad weather and salt took it away from you.

This is what happens to the LUVs up here in the Northeast. It is too bad, but it is better to make one good one out of two then to have sent two to the graveyard. :) I don't even ever seen any LUVs on the road around here but mine. The salt and moisture and Winter weather just rust things away pretty bad.

I wish I could take that much credit for but I can't :( I bought it that way while I had the chance. But thanks for the compliment anyway.

I would have restored one, as I'm currently doing with my 79 4x4 before buying someone elses work.

However this one is mostly all original and stock. So it was like buying it new as opposed to buying someone else's work, if that makes sense.?

I envy you guys on the west coast when it comes to rust free vehicles. Almost all vehicles rust away pretty fast in this area, but LUV trucks seened to rust away over night. My 79 4x4 had holes in the rocker panles within 6 months after i got it. The 80 i have that came from California and is now 27 years old is totally rust free. But, I will never drive it in the salt and snow when i get it finished, so maybe it will last another 27 years ?? lol.

The few LUV owners left in this area are in the same boat I am. If they need rust free parts, they have to order them from the west and then pay the high shipping. But i will pay the high shipping to get what I need.

I got a left fender off ebay from Idaho for $60.00. This guy just wrapped the fender in about 3 layers of bubble wrap and shipped it by UPS. Shipping was only $39.00 (this was 4 years ago)and the fender arrived in perfect condition ! I couldn`t beleive my eyes when I unwrapped it. It is beautiful, and good as a NOS fender.

Then, I got a right fender and a hood from a guy in Arizona. I can`t remember what I paid for them but I thought it was dirt cheap. This guy just wrapped the hood and the fender separately in carboard and then strapped them to a wood skid. The shipping cost me $80.00 that time, but again, the parts were way better than i expected. So, when and if, I have to buy a passenger door from out west and get it for less than $100.00 and have to pay $150.00 shipping, I will still feel like I got a deal, because rust free Luv parts are non existant around here.

I hear what you are saying Ike. They just aren't around here in the Northeast. Most trucks you do find are full of rust. All the yards have crushed the trucks they did have years ago. Look at my firewood truck pics. I got that truck body on a different frame a couple summers ago and the rocker panels were mostly intact. Now they are almost gone. Everytime I go for a load of wood I lose another chunk from them! The frame was welded in the bad spots behind the cab when I got it and this Summer I had to have reinforcement brackets welded on to keep it together. I am sure one of these days the damn truck is just going to fall apart. That is why I think I am pressing my luck with the ton or ton and a half of wood loaded on it! Some leaf springs were added to help carry the weight, so that helps a little. The truck is nice for getting back in the woods since it is small. I suppose I could buy an old S-10 to use, but the rust is probably not much better and I would miss my firewood LUV!

My uncle has a yellow 79 4x4 with the decals just like yours. It was originally my late grandpa's. It was the reason I got into Luv's. My grandpa bought it used in about 1980, (a year old). He would drive it over to see us when I was about a 6th grader. And when I got my driver's license I wanted one just like it. So I got a 72, ( not excactly like his but it was the same color :) ). My uncle still drives it to work today(timber feller). By the way your Mikado seat looks mint, take good care of it....

So that's what my hood would have looked like, but in black.

Sorry to hear another LUV fell victim to rust. I sold mine and the new owner hit someone who failed to stop at a stop sign. luckily he wasn't hurt, those pickups aren't really too strong.

Anyways, glad you have a new project! I'm picking up another after a year and a half of withdrawls...
