Here's the rundown: Since I've acquired my truck (82 diesel), when I have the headlights, a/c fan, and radio going at the same time, the fan would go off and my filter and voltage dummy lights would come on. Then when I take off again, fan kicks back on and the dummy lights go off. Now, for a couple days, both dummy lights stay on and the fan won't work. Any ideas? Alternator?

Clean all of your fuse connections and the wire plug-ins in the fusebox under the hood real well. That's where most of that kind of stuff comes from.

Then look to see if any of your wiring under the hood has been "creatively customized"...lol.

Good luck!

It's the alternator. It gave out on me. Did you know it's hard to find an alternator for my truck? Stupid little vacuum pump...

Im sure with a big hammer you could make one off a Toyota or something a bit more common fit.

Or you could give your passenger a plastic tube and get em to suck real hard when it comes time to stop

Too aggravated with it to try the hammer thing. And the wife protested last time I asked her to do something like that... 8O

http://www.partsamerica.com has it. Looks like the cheapest one is $140 plus $40 core. It says one day shipping to a store in the 70446 zip.

NAPA shows it also. (Looked it up under an '82 Chevette w/diesel.) http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=430&CatId=11&SubCatId=2

http://www.abautosalvage.net/, has a used one for $35 listed which is the closest one showing up in the southeast. They are in Griffin, GA.

Have you checked the parts classifieds at http://www.isuzupup.com?

Good luck :)

Well, Advance Auto Parts had the alt in their system for $112, but couldn't get one for some reason. Auto Zone ordered me a reman for $140. So today I should have my alternator installed.
