OK--can anyone tell me how to remove the dog dish hubcaps on stocker wheels without damaging paint / metal on the wheels and caps? I just got through removing the front left and scraped the paint on the cap...:(

Thanks!

The stock lug wrench has a sort of crowbar lip on one end for taking them off. Other than just being careful there isn't a whole lot you can do until you have them off I think. Once they are off, cleaning up the lip, maybe a little light grease might make the come easier next time. Of course that might make them want to fall off too. For anyone wanting to resto those caps, I think powdercoating them and the wheels would be a good plan. I've never had an easy time getting them off, tho I never ran them on a truck I drove a lot though.

Paint on the cap? I'm confused :?
You have coupla hundred posts so I hesitate to post this, but...
The normal garage tool is a curved prybar looking thing with a big rubber hammerhead on the back of the bend.

When I've dealt with HIGH$$ rims I wrapped a clean red grease rag over the flat blade tip to reduce scratching potential.

are they rusted at all. i had that problem with mine cus they were rusted and the paint kept chipping off. i never really found a way to keep them looking good. they do make rubber tipped pry bars these days. i think autozone carries them. gl

We always had them in the garages I've worked at but I found this googling for $5.99.

The 1 connected to the image I "borrowed" was $10 w/ purchase or $25.

I have brand new stock hub caps, and they are hard to get off. I have to bend them in one spot over one wheel tit, and fix it before I reinstall them. Bad design I guess. But I'd bet $ they will NEVER fall off on the freeway.

We use a tool called a "whale bone". In the early years they were whale bones now some sort of plastic that does not scratch. I run into this problem all of the time on 47 and 48 Chevy Fleetlines.
