Finally got the new carb installed this past weekend. Need help on trying to get it to run smooth. Runs fine when I ease down on the pedal but not when I punch it. It bogs down like it wants to die, then it picks up and takes off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you using a fuel pressure regulator? If not, you may need one running at most 4.5 psi.

Not using a pressure regulator. Will that make that much of a difference. Drove to work this morning (50 miles all freeway) and it ran great at a steady speed. Stills bogs down when I put it to the floor. I'll look into a regulator today..
Thanks for the info..

Trust me, if you don't use a regulator you will eventualy ruin you oil. The stock pump floods the crap out of the float causing all the excess fuel to make its way into the oil pan.

I never had a problem with my weber with the stock pump and no regulator, but I put a filter with two outlets on and hooked the fuel return to one and the carb to the other larger one. The local parts store had a filter with the right inlet and outlet for the main line to the carb and a smaller line out to hook the return line to. Stick one of those up at the carb and you shouldn't have to worry at all about overfilling the carb.

Sounds to me more like a jetting issue. Was this a brand new luv specific weber kit or a carb you got from some other rig and put on? Could be the jets are a tad too big. I forget what the LUV kit comes with for jets, but carbs.net or http://www.redlineweber.com should be able to tell you.

as for faults, the accelerator pump could be bad on the carb if iti is a used one. The bog when you stomp it could be fuel starvation.

Another idea would be swapping to an electronic ignition or a good tune up. A weber can deliver a whole lot more fuel and air than the stocker, and a weak spark might be getting overwhelmed when you put your foot in it.

Forgot to mention, you really must go through the lean best idle setup when install a weber. Get it tuned right and be sure to check what the setting ends up being. That will tell you alot about the jetting and whether it is too lean or rich. More than 3 turns out on the idle mix screw means too lean(small) idle jets, and I think less than one is too rich on the jets.

Brand new carb kit.. I've done the lean best idle setup as per the Redline info.. The only think I did different was use the throttle lever from the Hitachi and made a new throttle cable bracket.

just had a thought, only cuz I've personaly experienced this and read about it a couple other instances. Make certain one of the throttle plates is not binding against te gasket between the carb and the adapter plate.

That is a good point. Also worth double checking the adapter gasket for leaks. Vac leaks seem to be a frequent complaint on newly installed webers. Spray some carb cleaner or something around the base to be sure that isn't causing you trouble. Usually it works fine for a while though and then the bolts loosen up. If you find that is the problem a little dab of something on the bolt threads should help them hold tight. Thread locker would be tough to ever get loose again, I think I used just a little dab of soft set permatex on mine.

Thanks for all the info.. I'll look into those this weekend.. I installed the fuel filter with the two outlets last night. I also teed into the vacuum line to the distributor to get vacuum to the EGR valve. This morning on the way to work I was getting a little hesitation when I was going from a dead start. I don't know which of the two would have caused the problem.
