FYI

I am pretty sure yall know this but for those who by chance don't, I was messing around with the headlight trim, you know the plastic part around your headlights ( I have Quads) and I noticed they are Chrome underneath.
SO...I tested some Aircraft paint Strip on small corner to make sure it didn't eat through to the plastic. It Didn't. It did Eat the black paint that was covering all that nice Chrome...Whoa! I stripped the whole thing to expose all the chrome. I will have pics later. This may be old news to some of yall but Dang...It felt good to discover something so sweet. I was planning on a BMW headlight conversion too with the Angel Eyes...Guess I can put that loot to something else now.

Yep...I stripped mine back to chrome with some cheapo brake cleaner.

I have no idea why chevy had such a thing for painting over chrome, but they did it a lot back then.

I'm trying to add as much vintage chrome chevy stuff to the outside of my truck as I can.

I wish I could find 2 straight left and right nice looking older chrome chevy mirrors with the hardware intact, but so far no luck.

With the paint on ------------------------------------------ with the paint off

Another with paint off.

I used a little laquer thinner.
I think I like the contrast of the paint on. But it probably also depends on the trucks color and grille type/color.

I think it has to do with the number of headlights. With the smaller 4 headlight setup, the chrome around each headlight is too much. With the 2 headlight setup, the chrome isn't as noticable.

Check out Ben's blacked out look on the homepage. I like that look and will be copying it. 8)

Regarding the BMW angel eyes... that's what I've been thinking about for the last few weeks. I'm mesmerized by those. Any idea how much they must cost? Probably more than I paid for the truck... sigh.

I can get a set of angel eyes from $250 - 350...depends on whose up late night on Ebay. I saw a 59 impala with BMW Angel eyes.....I shit my favorite pair of pants too! Nas---------Tee! Evil looking just sitting in the parking lot. Slammed, Black, chopped top with blue led underlighting and BMW 7 series Angel eyes. I tremble at the mental image and this was 2 years ago...

I don't know why I forget the obvious sometimes. Of course E-bay. I figured they were new enough I'd have to buy from the dealer which of course scares me... 8O

Your description of the impala is very nice. It must have been beautiful.

I'm off to E-bay to look.

What in the hell are BMW Angel eyes? I worked at a BMW dealer as a mechanic and I am sure I have seen them but can't picture them.

Oh man if anyone should know YOU should...being a Beemy Mechanic and all. I guess we all use the street slang. They actually don't look like Angel Eyes but more like a Halo around the projector lense.....Or, how you interpet, coming down the street a BMW with "The Eyes" Acutally looks Devilish or Evil as hell. Like and M3 or M5...can Burn the tires right off the rims and STILL look at you mean and say WHAT?!!!! WHAAT!

Thanks for the pic, hell I own a BMW with those. The lights might be good but the rest of the BMW is a major POS, that is why I left the dealer. I wish someone would steel my BMW.

They sell all kinds of trick halogen headlights on ebay. You can get the ovals in different colors, you can get headlights that have the turn signals built into them, that have different objects in the center, different colored dots in the center, or just about any other kind you want.

I have white oval prism cut halogens with the turn signals built in on my '78 stepside.. I wired the turn signals to my park lights. They weren't too expensive and they are a heck of a lot better than the old stock seal beams.

Nice! I just got a pair of chrome headlight visors for mine. I'm gettin' real anxious to spray some paint on mine too. I just wish I had more time to get it all done.
