Is it possible to mount the radiator in the bed right behind the cab? I've heard of it being done but have never seen it myself. This would allow for a bigger radiator if you mounted it at a 45 degree angle. You could get air from under the truck if you cut a hole in the bed. Just an idea...

Yes you can do it. i had a v8 luv that had it there. I had a hole in the floor and had 2 inch pipe under the cab for the hoses to hook to from the pump. had an electric fan on the raddy also. Worked great just looked funny. Might do it again on truck now to transfer weight to the back. I had a full size chevy truck raddy on it.

Thanks! It's good to hear from someone who's done it.

Not neccesarily LUV's, but I've seen serious desert race trucks do this. Most of them mount it to the roll cage in the bed.

If you don't like the look, you can always hide it all under a tonneu cover. Of course, then holes in the bed for air flow would be mandatory.

Years ago a friend of mine put a big block in a luv and he put the rad. at a 45* angle in the back of the bed with two fans under it out of site then had the tail gate louvered for air flow. With the air moving over the cab it hit the rad. perfect and flowed out the back .You could do the same but cut the bed out under the rad. and with a alum.rad. it would look like a spoiler if you add a wing on it.

Not a raddy reply but my son thinks I should cut out my entire bed floor and replace it with expanded metal so we could see the frame and driveshaft and all. What do you think, look funny, lose to much rear weight for racing.
Any thoughts/ Would have to make new braces for my battery and fuel cell.

I attended the Bjaja 500 in Ensenada a few weeks ago. Radiators in questions.

As for the weight difference i don't think there would be much as you will need the expanded metal heavy enough to hold the bed together so the weight would be about the same. But i question the reasoning as the truck when racing should have a cover over the bed anyway,in witch case with the right support you would not need the floor then.

My son just thought it would look neat with the expanded metal to see the drive train. Not sure I will do it though. Gonna carpet my bed over some thin underlayment of some sort.
