I am in the process of doing a 4" body drop and 4-link. Has anyone had a problem with the front suspension not laying the frame down to the ground? When the cab is on the frame the back of the cab touches the ground but the front suspension will not allow the frame to lay down. My problem I think is with the upper balljoint. The joint seems to be past its limits of travel and not allowing the suspension to travel up more. I do have enough weight in the front with the SBC.

Thanks,
Craig :?:

this sounds a little silly ,but did you check the bumpstops already? If it is the upper ball joint you could make new upper a-arms to fix the problem

I cut the lower bumpstop bracket out and notched the cross member to allow the control arm to piviot ever higher than if you just took the bump stop out. The idea that I have in mind is to fab up a new upper control arm that allows the ball joint to be more in line. I do have a parts truck that I am stripping.

From what I can seein the last pic, the upper joint looks OK. Is the upper a frame hitting the shock pocket? Looks like it in the pic, but I can't see it straight on.

I think mytmouz is right, you could cut some of the flat out of the arms and then use solid bar stock welded in the outer channel to stiffen it back up.(nothing a torch and welder can't fix)that's what we have done on stock armed race cars to clear the jacking screw

Ok let me try unbolting the upper control arm tonight and see if it allows the lower control to travel up more. I will post some more pics tonight of the bump stop that I cut out.

RIGHT AFTER A RIDE!!!!! :D

When I was tearing mine down I couldnt get the front to lay frame without the torssion bars or shocks either.
Mine would only go down about as far as where yours is at.

I kind of think that the ball joints bind up before the frame will get that low, I didnt see anything else that was stopping it. Maybe it was the lower control arm... Im not really sure.

I have some new ball joints that I can take a pic of to show how much they will bend if you want to look at them.

OK, when I took the upper control arm off the lower one went up completely to the frame. This is great news because that will allow the suspension to sit a low as possible. the upper control arm will rotate completely around to the inside of the frame. The upper ball joint is limiting the travel. I think I'm going to fab a new section of the upper arm at the ball joint location. I do have another complete truck that i'm stripping for parts. On that truck i'm going to cut out the ball joint section of the upper arm and weld it to my arm to allow the ball joint to stay more inline than the extreme angle it is at now. Does anyone know if drop spindles are available? I am having 1" spacer machined to get the spindle up off the lower control arm to get the truck even lower. If drop spindles are available that would be GREAT!!!

i am looking into that my friend owns his own shop (KUTS-R-US)1-559-784-5887 i will see what we can get for that  also you can cut a pie out of the bottom of the upper a arm so the ball joint will be in a better angle and then weld it back together

you might have to cut the front of the frame and move it up. i was looking at mine and the lower control arms and cross brace sits lower than the frame
