Hey all I just got a free 1976 Luv with a v6 3.8L 79 Buick engine. I was wondering what I could do to make this truck a beast without spending every penny i make and also what type of exhaust would sound best and also give it the best performance? Flowmaster 40's? I don't know much about exhaust..

This my sound out of line to most but put a 2 1/2' single exhaust with the muffler of your choice (flowmaster 40 would sound good) I know most people think you have to have duel and big pipes witch is fine for racing but due you race all the time ?The single large pipe will enhance the bottom and mid range power where the Buick V6 likes to run anyway. But it's your truck so you get to do what you want, but i have setup three muffler shops and built countless exhaust systems so i had to toss in my 2cents. nope I don't race at the track but I'd like to when I put some stronger parts in the engine when I figure out what I should put in etc. I just want it to sound like a sweet ride but not obnoxious like a rice rocket im talking about a PURRR that you hear for blocks :D

I'm with TJ. It's also a pain to run a pipe on the side the stock fuel tank is on.

It won't look like a ricer honestly that is what my dad used to use on his muscle cars and that is what i put on all my Luvs and it makes it sound like a bad ass and it has the look of a calssic champion.

Your exsisting pipe will need to be cut and then the Cherry bomb welded in. You can clamp it in but welding is better. I would go to a muffler shop. They should be able to get the bomb for you also.

How do you plan on smoging the LUV with the V-6? Has it been inspected with the V-6 by a referee?

If you know how to weld then just weld them on your self that's what i do but if you don't the smartest thing would be to take it to a muffler shop that you trust.

It has a stamp of approval from the dmv. The previous owner swapped the entired engine and installed one from a 1979 Buick v6 3.8L. So they dmf approved it somehow

I just cherry bombed my truck tonight after changing out the turbo mufflers that were in it. . . there is no sound like a cherry bomb. . . Plus there is no way to mistake a cherry bombed V-6 for a coffee can I-4 !

DPM707: Are you in Benicia, CA ? Cause if you are, I know of a few in the East Bay that rock; mostly in Pleasanton and Dublin. One is Tri-Valley Muffler in Dublin- they are expensive but do very very good work. The other is Minute Muffler in Dublin: They are famous for their quick, cheap work, but it depends on when you catch the owner Scott, some days he does awesome work, some days you wonder what he was thinking...

ha! Yeah I'm in Benicia CA, is it possible for a muffler shop regardless of a cheap price to really screw up putting cherry bombs on my luv? I'm leaning towards the cheaper one you named since I'm trying to save as much money as I can :)
