In swapping an S-10 rear end in a chevy luv, what year S-10 truck rear ends are you using and what are the gears they come with? Are they a true easy swap with no mods needed? Thanks!

i believe the 82-93 rears are an almost bolt in. you'll need a driveshaft made to match the isuzu front yoke to the chevy rear yoke. i believe the brake line splitter block needs swapped with your old one and you'll have to figure out the e-brake cables. but it seems to be a real easy swap from all accounts. gearing runs just about any range you want. you'll want a housing that originally came with a higher than 3:08 so you'll have more aftermarket gearsets available as the housings are different.

3.43 is the most common.

I did a swap that worked out perfectly.

Absolutely a snap bolt in. Have done 3 now. Just alittle time consuming but not bad. Try and find a posi if you can.

Hmmm..I don't know if Chevy even had an S10-like truck in Australia. If they did, it would be their small truck right after '82, when they discontinued the Luv.

The same truck basically with an enclosed back was the S10 Blazer here. They came with a 2.8, 4.3, and a few other engines.

that it might answer a few of your questions. . .

If you are looking for an upgraded axle, but don't want to break the bank on your LUV, there is only one way to go !

A 1982-1994 S-10 2 wheel drive, (no sorry kids 4 wheel axles won't work.) Also, just incase you were curious, S-15 axles will work but they have to be a certain model, and it is better just to stay away from them.

And once you have found one of those, and if the gear ratios are not what you want, or you do not have a posi-unit, fret not, because since the S-10 differential is a GM 7.5" 10 bolt, they have been around for quite a few years and there are a variety of well priced parts available, from ranging gear ratios to lock up spools, to posi-units.

Once you have that settled, it is a straight bolt in extravaganza. The stock hardline brakes from the differential will bolt directly into the brake splitter from the frame of your stock LUV truck !

Once you have everything buttoned up and down nice and tight, then from there is the driveshaft. Pending on what transmission you are using, and how your motor is placed, there will always be some difference in lenghts of driveshafts, even from LUV to LUV. So as a piece of mind just buy a new one, new yokes and everything balanced all nice, built just for you, and it wouldn't cost a whole lot. But if you are going for the bargain route, and you are using a TH-200/TH-350/TH-400 you can find a Generation 3-4 camaro driveline and have it shortened, balanced, and new yokes front and rear. The labor for having the yokes replaced, shortened and balanced will cost anywhere from $90-$150 dollars, plus however much you find your junkyard driveline for, so with that in mind. . . just go have a new one fabbed up !

Would a rear end from a 95' s-10 work? I noticed many people cut the range of applicable years off at 94'. What about disc brakes? Are there any modifications needed to make rear disc brakes work?
Thanks

If a 1982-1994 S-10 2 wheel drive rearend is a bolt in , would a camaro rearend of the same year range work as a bolt in to get a cheap rear disk brake conversion?

I don't remember are the camaros leaf or coils. The camaro might be a little wider. Not sure.

I haven't used a newer body style S10 rear, but the frame is the same as the older trucks, so it should work. I believe the reason for the cutoff date is the newer ones most likely have antilock brakes. The camaro discs will work with a little modding. The disc rears are mostly the 'Australian version' not all parts interchange with the 7.5 most of you are familiar with. That's where the modding comes in. Go to Speedway Motors and look for their 'metric' rear disc parts. You can get some cheap flamecut brackets and use Olds Toronado calipers for a rear disc setup pretty cheap. The brackets can be modified to fit a lot of other rears too. I have a set on a 12 bolt in a 67 Chevelle.

The ABS stuf is under the hood not in the brakes. That would not have any affect.
