I am looking to replace the shocks on my one '80 2wd and am wondering what are the most decent brand to use for a cheap price? I want to someday go all out on this truck, but for the next couple of years or so I want to just get it legal to drive around in the Summer, so I don't want to spend a fortune on shocks right now. I saw some real cheap ones on eBay for like $12, I think the were called Gabrielle gas shocks? Anyway, any info to steer me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gabriels are good. That was GM's original equipment manufacturer for a long time. I think Autowrong sells 'em, buy 'em there and you get a lifetime warranty. I bought 2 for my Suburban there last month for $26.00.

Ditto here...I have Gabriel Gas Shocks on my 79 Luv, my 89 S10 Blazer, and my wife's Pontiac Grand Am. They're pretty cheap and work just fine.

you can't buy them in a store for the ebay price, I am going to get them from ebay also.

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about buying those but wondered about the quality. I guess I will pick up a set of those sometime soon.

I bought a set of 4 on ebay as well. Just like the Gabriels your looking at. They were under 50 bucks delivered to my door. I installed them on my new 79 4x4 and they are good quality. A year later I needed shocks for my daily driver and didn't want to wait for ebay. I paid over 70 bucks at the auto parts store for the same shocks! So ebay is a good deal. :)

Not knocking the ebay deal, but the buy it now is $12.95, plus 10.00 shipping, even if they combined shipping, that's $62.00. The ones for my burban were just over $26 for 2, same kind, from Autowrong, with a lifetime warranty. That would be just under $53 bucks for a set of 4.

Actually I am planning on lowering the truck, so should I be using different shocks? I don't want to lower it way down, just enough so it looks cool.

The stock shocks will work on a 2" lowering alright and maybe a 3".Ask Farmer Joe how his works as he has a 3" lower on his truck but i think for a daily driver and all around use you should stick with a 2" lower witch will look good and give the suspension room to work.

Thanks for the info. I was figuring only a 2" or 3" lower would be all I would need, so the stock shocks will work then.
