I too am planning to flatbed my LUV truck. I've got at least a couple months to go before I start building the bed.

Any pictures would be welcome.

I could be, my truck's a 2wd tho. I looked at your pics... damn ! Your truck looks tight, did the coilovers need alot more space than the shocks did? the mods were kinda hard to see. I saw something [a thread w\pics?] about that kind of mod was that you? oh and I just want to do something different w/the back half of my ride, the long bed is kind of beat up.Again your ride looks kick-ass!

You could go with a 1.9L motor from a bit newer Isuzu without drawing too much attention if you have to smog check it. Other than that, getting a cam upgrade is about all you can hide, maybe fatter exhaust pipe. If you aren't worried about hiding mods from the smog patrol (Oregon may rain, but at least most of us don't have to smog check...) there are a few things you can do. Weber carb is the biggest, and a header would help squeeze a few more ponies out.

There is a good thread here with info about putting in a 5 spd trans that may interest you too. Depending on how cheap you get the trans it would not be too terribly expensive, a little fabrication and paying to have the driveline shortened. Search for 5spd trans on the forums. You'll need to look in Isuzu PUPs and pickups to find a 2WD trans, but the rest of the info is pretty much the same.

I saw a flat bed/ stake bed here in Whittier Ca. I think it was even a dually. It needed a lot of work. I might be able to get a pic of it if you think it would help you out. I'm pretty sure it is original, but not sure if it was a factory thing.

Unfortunately, I'm leaving for Houston in the morning. I'll try to get pics when I get back, early next week.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

I was thinking about re-doing my longbed as a flat.

I was thinking about U bolts for the 4x6 to the frame, then that plasti-decking for the bed. Thoughts?
