Last week my alternator took a dump. It was advertised as 100amp high out but I never really saw any significant improvement over the stock 65amp unit. In fact it was really a piece of junk. It wouldn't turn on until I revved the engine up to 4000RPM and at idle it had almost no output. It was to the point where I had to put a battery charger on my truck every couple days to drive it.

Normally I don't really endorse products because what works for one person, might not work for another. However, I bought a replacement alternator from Powermaster and what a difference! The truck has a small block in it so I bought a GM mount "Denso" alternator, part number 182071.

This particular unit has a high idle output, advertised at "95+" amps. Since I have a bunch of accessories I needed the high idle output. I was skeptical of the claims made by Powermaster because of my past experience with my 100amp alternator from a different manufacturer.

Yesterday the alternator arrived from Summit Racing. I installed it last night and went for a test drive. The difference was NIGHT AND DAY! The Powermaster activated as soon as I started the truck and began charging my battery at IDLE! I went for a drive at night and turned on my headlights, cooling fan, etc. The alternator made enough power to run all my accessories and still had some left to charge the battery! Even at idle!

I just wanted to share with everyone that these alternators from Powermaster meet up to their claims and are worth the money they ask for them. I wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

well theres a couple of diffrent styles of alternators with diffrent stator windings. for example theres the Delta winding and WYE windings. Delta windings are for vheicles that will produce power at higer rpms. and for the WYE winding alternators are for vheicles that will produce power at low rpms. and as for the amprage out put if it says 65amps that means that thats the max. the alternator will produce when that much amprage is needed. and plus if u dont have any crazy sounds that amprage will never reach the alternators maximum potential.

damn i have learned something from going to UTI :)
