Has anyone here done a convertable or removable hardtop? I know there are kits, but has anyone here actually done it?

I'm thinking of doing a removable hardtop, but I'd like some idea of what I'm getting into.

I have done 3 convertibles. 2 Mazdas and a 89 Toyota, all done with kits.

My advice....don't use a kit. It's much more work to do a channelled convert but the results are worth it. My buddy did one on his Mazda years ago. Sweet! and no leaks!

I helped my friends with 2 of them and another friend with one back in the 80's, all Ratical kits on Toyotas, and they all leaked pretty bad. 8O Like Feelin said, if you are handy with metal, it would be better to design your own than use those terrible plastic cap kits.

Thanks for the responses.

Feelin, what's a channeled convert?

Also, how would I handle the door frame? Just cut it off and put really thick rubber on the edge of the roof?

Since I've never seen one, kit or otherwise, I'm not sure how to address the details.

Thanks.
