I just bought one of those last week- I'm pretty impressed with it. It fits very nicely, with only minimal trimming of the old dash. My only problem is that I don't have much dash left to glue it to, after knocking down the gaping splits. They're made by a company called Accuform. Between the dash and the new windsheild, I don't even recognize the truck anymore when I walk into the garage... The hot lick for filling the cracks on the lower part of the dash is to work in a little Permatex; it fills the cracks and remains flexible, which keeps them from getting worse, and if you use the black stuff, it's really not that noticeable.

One thing , though, that's a little incomplete... the new dash cap has the area over the radio speaker perforated, which is cool, because my plastic defroster vent thingy that snaps in there was trashed, but there are 2 separate holes in the dash cap where the defroster vents are supposed to go, on either side of the molded in speaker grate- I tried trimming my factory one peice unit into two peices, but being 30 year old Japanese plastic, it disintegrated in my hands. At the moment, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to stick in there to deflect the air up across my windsheild... any ideas, anybody?

back when i tired to make my own custom dash i used a couple little round vent caps that i found at the hardware store. I think they were about 2in in diameter and an inch deep.

Yeah, I've seen those- we used to use them for vents in our light tables back when printing was "analog". I'm not sure what they're actually for, but that's a pretty good idea- They've got pretty neat little louvres in them. I think they even come in different sizes. I'm going to stop by the hardware store tonite and check that out-

I ordered that same cap off of JC Whitney years ago for my old LUV. The grain on the dash even matches. Awesome value.

I stumbled on this site selling the same Accu-Form dash caps for $64.50 instead of the $93.95 JC Whitney is charging. I could not find a better business bureau entry for them, so they don't have a record of complaints, but I have no idea how reputable they are.

If anyone orders from these folks, please post what your experience was like.

Do these caps just fit over the top of the dash?

Hey Bob and Spindle.....I believe you guys are talking about soffit vent inserts. Builders use them instead of a strip of screen or aluminum/vinyl vented panels.

I am gonna have to get one of those dash covers. They are really cool. And yes I am gonna try to build my own vents. I have an idea for them using the gasper vents (the little vents in an airplane that you twist to open over your head) I got originally to use in my chevelle. It has factory a/c and I wanted to pipe the a/c to teh back seat to those little vents. I will post pics when I can.
