I'd say go for it. Even if you decided not to go ahead with the project, you could at least get some money for parts or scrap metal.

It depends on your skill level also. You're talking about a project that is going to eat away at your weekends for YEARS. You need to make sure that five years from now, that this is what you are going to want to still be doing, because you probably will be still working on it.

At the very least, you should be able to salvage enough parts out of the 3 to make one decent truck. 8)

When you're talking about that much body work, and considering the average person only has weekends and holidays to work on it, and a limited budget.... the years go by before you know it.

I'm just encouraging you to think everything through before you start hacking on it. If you don't have everything planned out from taking the first bolt out to turning the key on it when you're finished, you'll find yourself letting it sit.

You seem to know what you're doing with the metal work, so you probably have all this planned out. It may not take all that time, just be sure you're not biting off more than you can chew.

Check out his gallery... there's a website, so maybe you can ask him what's involved in making an extended cab.

Good luck

I suppose it depends on what you're going to use it for.

If you're going to carry some extra passengers, you're looking at 4 feet or so. If you're looking for more leg room for yourself and perhaps some speakers, 18 inches may be the trick. I would also look at the truck as a whole and decide if it's going to make it look odd. I can't stand the way the quad cab - four full size door s10's look with the 3 foot bed. You can't haul anything but a few sacks of groceries with them. Hell, get a Blazer!

Keep us updated on the progress. If you need help posting pics or anything, don't hesitate to ask.

you are so very right.......my whole life i myself and others have credited me with haveing very good drawing skills, but that has nothing to do with what i am telling you.......well i got out a pen and pan and looked at a side shot of a 79' luv and from ther i drew that love on my paper to scale of the one in the pic i did it in 1/2 scale so it would fit on my paper, i drew all the dementions out the same x-cept half the length and when i finished i had a sharp looking truk.....but then i added what would be 10 inches (for leg room and speakers) and after the drawing was finished the bed was way short and the truk as a whole looked like hell plain and simple.....so i think that i will take the 2 4x4's and make 1 good runner, then take and make the 2 wheele and make a nice street truk. thanx for the imput one agin and thank u for opening my eyes b4 i cut a good truk in half and made an ugly one......dang i have alot to say,SORRY

Go with electronic ignition from a newer LUV/Isuzu motor (81 and up) for a nice stable fat spark. Check out the info section of luvtruck.com for a list of parts to get and how to put them in.

I like plain Bosch Platinum plugs, split fire and all those other multi prong plugs I've never heard a whole lot of good about. You could go with Denso Iridium plugs too, though they are spendy

The wires, well just new wires is a step up for most luvs

Cam: http://www.deltacam.com offers reground cams that increase lift and duration.

Header: pacesetter makes one, you can also sometimes find other brands (Thorley, Hooker) on ebay though I don't think you can still get them new off the shelf.

Carb: Weber makes two. A 32/36 progressive and a 38 syncronous. The 38 is overkill unless you have some other mods to go with like the header and cam. If you can make an adapter plate you could fit a lot of different carbs on there, but the webers are about all you can find on the shelf with an adapter already made. Check out http://www.carbs.net for pricing.

A glasspack will be loud, I ran one on my 77 for quite a while and it was obnoxiously loud. If you couple one with a split resonator tip you might tone it down enough to keep the law off your back though.

You could add in something like an MSD ignition system for better spark, though the gains will probably be pretty minimal. There are a few dual sidedraft carb manifolds out there, but finding one usually means shipping it from Australia. Personally, I gave up trying to squeeze more out of the 1.8L luv motor and have started gathering parts to put in a 2.6L Isuzu motor into my truck. As the V8 guys like to say, there is no replacement for displacement.
