the "one-wire" type that's in the jegs catalog. I thought it might be too big to fit the stock 1.8's alternator mount. I've never had a vehicle with a small block so I dont have any idea what size the alt [or much else] is. I saw one on craigslist it seemed like acool idea but if it's not gonna work.... I appreciate any input.

I think someone on here has the info on putting the one-wire alternator on... I'll look around and see if I saved the info on it.

I dug this up for the Delcotron alternator. I believe I got it from "Blue Meanie" I think I have a diagram also if ya need it.

Quote:
Directions on installing a GM/ Delcotron alternator charging system to a Chevy Luv truck

The conversion applies to any kind of motor setup regardless of make of engine.
The conversion can be used with the stock Isuzu motor if you make brackets to mount the alternator correctly.

First thing is to mount the alternator correctly to the motor. Assuring that it mounts solidly, belt tension
can be adjusted smoothly, and the belt itself runs straight and does not interfere with any components.

There are 3 wires involved for this modification:
Wire A - Is a minimum 10 gage wire that will be added to the truck. It will attach to the battery terminal of the
GM alternator and run to either the positive post of the battery or the battery cable lead at the starter solenoid.
( if using an ammeter, its best to use a junction block. I have wiring diagrams that cover this.)

Wires B and C will need a GM alternator connector available from NAPA, AutoZone, Kragen, O'Rileys, ect

Wire B - Is the original alternator battery terminal lead from the stock alternator. It is rerouted and attached
to the red lead on the GM alternator connector(sensing lead)

Wire C - Is a 18 gage wire that is attached to the white lead at the GM alternator connector(field lead)
This wire is routed to the white/red striped wire lead at the stock voltage regulator connector.
The stock voltage regulator is no longer needed, it can be removed from the truck. This lead goes to the charge light
at the dashboard.( check your wiring diagram for that year truck to insure charge light wire is correct.)

At this point you may remove any wiring that ran from the stock alt to the stock volt reg.
The GM alt is internaly regulated so these wires serve no function.
After removing the old volt reg wires, there are 3 wires left at the volt reg connector. 12v, Gnd,and charge light.
It may be possible to remove the 12v wire completely to the fuse block. Gnd may be removed back to a splice or the terminal.
The charge light lead can be smoothly routed to the stock harness and with the connector removed, all evidence of the
old charging system is gone.

The system is now functional

Items to consider:
The stock Isuzu charging system is rated at 45 amps. The GM alt must be rated at least 45 amps.
The increase in amperage is noticable and very much apreceated

If the charge light bulb burns out, the system will not charge. replace the bulb and the system will work.
I have yet to change a bulb in 16 years so this really isn't an issue but this is what will happen if the bulb fails.

You may want to add a fuse link to wire A if you want to safeguard the truck wiring, but you must have links that are
part of the stock harness at the battery
.
