I dont think you'll be able to get it off in one piece. The dash itself is made of dense foam and is glued to the metal structure that is the reinforcement. Take a look in the projects gallery of the site and look for a truck without the dash in place. This will give you a good idea of what it attaches to.

If it's destroyed, then what does it matter how many pieces it comes in. 8O

On the serious side, i have pulled plenty of these ol dashes, as I use them for patterns for new ones i am midst of making (shhhh, that's still classified info at this time) But anyway.......along the bottom edge you should find some little clips where the foam holds onto the dash frame, after that and once you have instrument panel and glove box out then the pad should come right off, even if in horrible condition should come off in one piece.

I should have some of my old dashes restored and viewable to public, as well as up for sale by late next month just FYI 8)

um....you shouldn't have to remove the dash to put the dash cap on. It should just go right on top of the old dash (of course if you want it to stay on you need to glue it). If there are some small cracks try putting a little bondo between them then sanding it down and painting it black (NOTE I have not tried it but in my twisted theory it will work, but my theory led me to cut a hole in the hood and catching the carpet in my buddies garage on fire.... 8O

What he said......DO NOT take old dash out if you have a dash-cap! because you need that to glue your dash-cap TO 8O

NP....I don't mind sharing what i know, and I don't even charge for that LOL  8)

What doo i doo about teh dash where it is cracked and curling up?
I don't have one yet but it is an option i have to make it look new.
How thick is a dash cap? Is it formed solid to fit or is it soft and curves with what ever it is placed on top of?

The dash-caps are thin and flexible plastic........leave your dash the way it is and when you get dash-cap, get tube of glue or silicone and just put cap right over the old dash and press down.....Yes, it's just that easy 8)

Put some books or something that will fit on the dash once you install the cap, something w some weight to it that will press down on the cap and just leave it for a few hours/overnight and you'll be just fine.

I would sugest some SUPER tough industrial strength glue. since your dash has a huge section in the middle that is bad using heavy duty glue will help keep the form better. the previous owner on my truck used silicone and the cap comes right off.

Once you get the cap on paint the rest of your dash black so it apears the same color. Use like a vynal (sp?) dye spray paint. any automotive store will have this.

Mine was that bad. I cut out the top and left about an inch along the top edge over the instruments, radio and glove box. I left material at the outer sides because it was still holding it's original shape. I then used 2 layers of cork sheets and cut pieces to use as filler on the raised structure of the metal. Contact cemented the cork to the dash and then used the glue with the dash cap to hold the cap to the dash and new surface.
The thin layers of cork work really well because it's solid enough to anchor the dash to and it flexes just enough to handle temperature changes
