How about some bumber ideas for a 4X4? No bumper on one of those isn't the smartest thing.

yeah i know i have a 4x4. here in washington, the rule is your supposed to have a rear bumper and adhere to the fender rules, with the exception of "street rods." i dont think my stock 4x4 luv is a street rod  and yeah, no bumper on a 4x4 would look wrong and be a bad idea.

Mine was all rusted at the ball hook-ups and I backed into a snowbank and bent it right up under the truck. Tried to straighten it out, but it shows pretty bad.

i built a double tube bumper havnt finished it, has primer on it i might give it away cause i m buildin a flatbed i think for my luv i just never welded the reciever tube for pullin trailers but i made it pretty stout

here are my pics
Image

here is the back of it

Image

i took that stupid thing off the bottom for receiver tube to go through because everyone realized if i took it off road itd hit bottom and i realized it then

but i ll get rid of it when i build a flat bed soon

I don't have a rear bumper on my 4x4 79 and I think it looks just fine. I have mud flaps on the rear just behind the tires, but I only needed two more inches lower than the rear of the bed to be legal here in OR. If I didn't have 2 inches of the lift or had stockish sized tires on I would fine. I got pulled over for it once before I put on the flaps, and the rule at the time was something like no higher than 24 inches of exposed space behind the rear tires. That was after 5 years of driving it that way and never having it brought up in more than a couple traffic stops.

Back when I'd offroad my 2WD 76, I always had trouble dragging the bumper more than anything else, so leaving it off just gave me that much better departure angle. I've never caught the back end of the bed on anything like I used to with the bumper. Sucker just stuck out too much and hung down too far. I guess my theory is that the bumper is what hits stuff in the back. Without it I don't hit anything, so I don't damage the body. The 76 had dings from the bumper getting tweaked up into the bed in fact. ;)

Must have a rear bumper . This rig is for my teen son.
The local law has never been to fond of our little group.
Way ..... to many hot rods for thier taste.
On the other hand the cops just one town over are ALL gear heads.
How about just a sngle crome tube to mount uo to the existing brackets?

i would go with a roll pan. you would have to fabricate it yourself or have someone do it. it looks a 110% better than stock.

I'm thinking of selling mine, but the chrome plating is starting to come off, that and it just doesn't match the new look of my truck

I had the thought of using a narrowed ElCamino rear bumper. I have the tail light holes welded over on my truck and originaly wanted to put some rod tail lights in the roll pan. But Ive decided that I want a rear bumper and the ElCamino bumpers have the tail lights in the bumper. Itll be alot of work to get it to fit, but I think the results will be worth it.
