Have a 72 Luv w/disc front from 76. Time for a new master and I'm gonna run new lines and such. It has power unit on it, doesn't work very well with big cam and low vacuum. Planned on removing power unit and running aftermarket master w/proportioning valve.
Anyone else done this or any thoughts/suggestions?

Why dont you get a vac. canister? Still keep your power assisted brakes and the big cam.

Thought about the canister, but after talking with a few of the local performance shops I am not sold on them. They all said that they do help, but it is still not very consistant?
Have you used one? If so how did it work on the LUV?

I havent, but am freinds with two guys that both have big block camaros w/canisters and have had some problems with having a soft pedal now and then. Guess it just depends on how much you are willing to put up with. Im torn on it myself. Just thought Id throw the idea out there.

Just pulled the old unit out last night. After looking it over I may just replace it with a new unit or one of those complete aftermarket units?
It was pretty well beat, you could see it has more than a few leaks in it. That may have been more of the problem in the first place? We'll see.

Check around for an electric vacuum module, I know JEGS has them but they are not very cheap. I have a couple friends that run them and they work well. One is in a beefed up Chevy 4x4 with a 527hp 454 and extreme cam, and he has no problem with vacuum since he put that on there, and the other is in a Chevell with pretty much the same setup but only 513hp.

After taking everything apart and looking at how bad a shape it was in I just went to my local auto parts and got a new/rebuilt power unit and master for 60 bucks. That should cure the ill's.
Also just got my trans/motor back in, just going to hook everything back up and should be on the road later today.

All done yesterday, still have to bleed the brakes a little bit more. I got a little anxious to just start the thing up and make sure the new trans worked ok.
All is good, next project is rearend, should get that back in aother week or so. Thinking of either making or buying a set of cal-trac bars. I talked to Travis there and they can make a set per your dimensions, but its 319 bucks. It seems to me that a set could be built for a lot less.
