If your seriously thinking of doing some chewing with your truck, the best way is to do a straight axle conversion. That way you can put A LOT of lift under it, without having to deal with an IFS set-up. The torsion bars are good for a few inches from stock, and then a lot of guys cut the fenders out a bit to get some extra tire clearance under there. The back rear axle is easy to lift, the front involves more work. If you want a nice off roading truck in the end, do a straight axle conversion, get a toyota front, and bolt er in. Oh and if your cranking your torsions up, DO NOT crank them to full, back them off a bit, you lose ride height, but at least your not going to break the torsion bar off.

Just my .02 cents.
