I plan on cutting off the roof on my truck some day.Like a convertable but i want to be able to put the roof back on.i was thinking a good seal and some clips to fasten the top back on.Does anyone know if this would throw off the structure or does anybody knows an easier way to do a job like this?

Here's where I bought my hardtop kit:

http://www.truckn-store.com/product.asp ... Fid%3D1059

The kit contains real good instructions and the mating pieces and the latches to put the hardtop back on. I've got the body part done, then I shoved the top in the corner and went cruising! As soon as it gets too cold to drive I'll finish the top portion and put it back on.

There's a little bit more cowl shake, if the road's too rouch the inside mirror jiggles a lot.

The hardest part is making the first cut. Measure, measure, measure, sleep on it and then measure again.

Holler if you need any advice. John

Down here in sunny Mason County it only gets cold at night. Had the LUV out this aftrnoon - it was in the mid 60's. Besides, the top part of the project looks to be a little more complicated than the body portion, so I'm hoping for a long Indian summer. John.

Cutting the top is easy to do. I did it on my 2nd luv took me all of about a day and it worked fine, with no leaks. The rear view mirror did shake more and you defennently have to measure and re-measure to make sure it will go back on. I did not use a kit for mine though. I kind of designed my own and that took longer than the actual job itself. But it anly cost me around $60 to do.

Dang! You guys are giving me another headache, I mean idea. My wife saw the picture of the blue LUV with the removable top. She likes it!!! Now, I need to know just how heavy the removable section is, and can it be stored in the bed under a hard tonneau. Oh yes, I have a step side bed. I need to know this as if I do make the top removable and it starts to rain while I am cruising by myself, I need to be able to put it on QUICK.

If it starts raining you just drive faster and don't turn wiper on.It makes you look bad.I had a soft tonneau on mine and the top stuck up about 5-6in.As far as weight,I would open slider and pick it up from the side.

HHHMMMMM. It seems the Mrs was able to get all of you to tell me what SHE want's me to hear. Oh well, if you can post or send some detailed pics of the top and the various parts, I guess I will save up the money and do it up. But when my truck is going down the road topless, so is SHE.
