I read an old post that mentioned sandblasting a Luv truck could cause warpage from the heat generated by the media striking the sheet metal. Is that a true statement?

I have an 81 Luv that has lots of surface rust mostly on the inner fenders and the back of the cab. What's the best way to remove rust cheaply or inexpensively?

I have the means to media blast but I wanted to see if the warpage statement was true. Cab is off the frame.

I don't know much about blasting but I think walnut shells and other medias like that are better for not causing warpage. I did a lot of my truck with a wire wheel on my cordless drill.

One of the ingredients in jeyes is the same as the active ingredient in rust oleum.

Dilute the jeyes and brush on every spot, and give it a few days. The rust will turn black and die.

Should cost you about $3.

Yup, no, I've not seen any jeyes fluid in the states. But thanks for the suggestion.

Probably media blast and then treat it with POR 15. Need to do some body repair so I need to remove the rust and crud.

If you are going to paint over it, don't use POR15. Use phosphate, or something similar. 3m makes a rust converter in a spray can you use after prepping, which is basically phosphate to me. You can topcoat either after 24 hours with an epoxy sealing primer. Most primers are not good at keeping water from getting between them and the metal, so choose carefully...

More like this. Looks like 3m dropped what I used (it was an aerosol ) and loctite has it. I haven't used that though. I have used this one though, it does the same thing....
