My 78 Luvs headliner fell apart mid summer so I pulled it all out and decided to copy the roof in my 72. The way the roof is constructed, there is a 1/4" gap around the top of the cab and the roof itself. This makes a perfect place to tuck in the edges of some material and make a headliner.
You could use almost any fabric you want and then glue it to some 3/8" foam. I chose to use some diamond pleated vinyl I found on EBay. It has the foam and some batting already attached. I bought 1 yard which was 54"x36" and I had enough to do the roof, the package shelf and make a matching dash cover.
I measured the cab and cut my material to 28"x45" to get close to the size

I then test fit it into the truck and used a flat piece of nylon to tuck it into the gap. I used the old headliner bows to hold the fabric up while I tucked it in.

So its just hanging there I took pieces of masking tape and taped reference points for front back and sides. then took a light crayon and traced the edge of the opening where the vinyl is tucked in. All the way around and make sure you can see it.
