Could some of you post weights of your 4x2 luvs? I'm trying to get mine down to 2000.....or 2160 with me in it. Any advice on weight reduction would be appreciated. Thanks.

My 72 is set up like Ben's and with the stock rear end I was at 2850 a few years ago. I think 2k is a lot of cutting V8 or G180.

Thanks guys.....looks like its gonna be a challenge. My 80 luv weighs 2640lbs with me and a 1/4 tank of fuel. 2480lbs without me. Im goin with all lexan glass, fiberglass doors and fiberglass bed. I cant really justify putting fiberglass fenders on as they are all ready light. I guess one benefit would be no rust. lol. Probably go with a coilover set up on the front and do away with the torsion suspension.....just a pain. My 80 luv took me forever. Here are a couple pics of the 80....this was before I switched it to coilover so it sits quite a bit lower than what the pic shows now.

Coil overs and removing the torsion bars is going to be the biggie . If roll caged and welded to the rockers then you can remove all the factory brackets like gas tank mounts etc . It all adds up . Im 2840 with me in it and im 250

Thanks. I didn't even know this website existed until just the other day. Sure am glad I found it though, there is a lot of good info to be found here. Looks like my 80 luv and your truck are only 100lbs off of each other with us out of them. Im a skinny lil dude. lol. Is there a list on here anywhere of the fastest luv trucks on this site? Think that would be pretty sweet. I know v8s10.org has them listed for there trucks.

Mine weighs 2620...full inner fenders, fiber glass hood, full interior with bench seat. There are several Luvs that have been on here or still are that will go sub 5.50s 1/8.

Sub 5.50's is cookin... That's a little out of my reach for now. My fastest 1/8 mile time to date is 6.90. Im trying to get 6.60s out of this engine before I pull it to put in the new 421 with the fogger kit. Shooting for 6.0's on motor and I'm not quite sure with the bottle. Havent really decided what I'm gonna spray yet. Depends on the traction I guess. lol

I replaced the bed on mine with aluminum.
Saved a lot of weight since the aluminum bed only weighs @110 pounds.
I bought a used set of bleachers and bolted the benches together to make a flat bed.
Added aluminum angles cross wise for support and made a hinge from some 3/16" plate welded to an angle and bolted to the bottom of the bed.
Had the AutoTech guys shoot it with bed liner and the flatbed LUV looks great.

Yeah the back of my truck is pretty light as it is. From mid door back is 2"x3" tubing already. 9", ladders and coilovers. I put a new set of slicks on and finally got to try them out on the street. 28x12.50x15 e.t. streets. 12lbs of air and I can pull the front wheels footbraking it. :) Tried it off the transbrake.....4900rpm launch. hahahaha... truck didn't move.

Your bed is nice! Although I would only have one on my daily driver luv...prolly not my street/strip truck. Good craftsmanship though. :smt023
