Alright so the dash of these trucks is obviously an issue. Especially in a total loss case like my little 74. I love the look of the original dash, but going back isnt looking very hopeful. So i just kind of want to see what others have done to solve this problem. Any ideas are much appreciated.

I had a dash cap on it before it did look a lot better. However it was stil cracked top to bottom and chunks had cracked off along the bottom over time, it looked terrible even with the cap on it. So now that I'm doing a full frame off resto-mod to her its time to do something with it

I have seen the custom guys use some kind of foam and then sand it down to the shape they want. Then you could just glue some black vinyl over it and boom! New dash.

I hadn't thought about that. That sounds like a winning idea right there.

They use green "flower" shop foam. You can buy it online in almost any size you want even eBay. They use that because it is easy to shape and sand. You can use soft sponge stuff. Mattress foam, pillow foam, but it takes a lot more effort. Look at some sites that have custom dash's in them. Some how too site. The only problem today is most places have just fiber glass dash's.

I am not sure how you could do a Luv dash unless you were just doing just the top. Their is a lot of vinyl material that can be heated to shrink to fit most shapes. I suppose you could use one peace, shrink, and then cut out your dash holes.

I have thought of doing this on my V8 Luv that has no padded dash at all. I looked at this many moon's ago, before I had any Luv's. I do not remember what it was for any more.

Good luck with your project!

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

Thank you. I've put a little thought in to the whole fiberglass idea since its something I can do myself and have it look good. Since the general shape of the dash is intact it would look almost like the original just hard rather than soft feel. I like the thought of doing the foam and vinyl, but truth is its way out of my skill set and too pricey to have some one else do. As much as i want the soft padded dash feel, for all intents the fiberglass would suit just fine as long as it stays faithful to the look of the original. Afterall this project is more about the body and whats under the hood.

I was thinking about pulling mine out and using fiber glass and maybe even change the look of the dash a little.
