My mind is going crazy with the new truck, and I am having trouble sleeping, 2 not related. Thinking out of the box(cheap guy that I am). $600 for a panel and gauges is way too much. I am just using that number so I don't need links to cheap gauges. Though I love a set that is $700+ . What all do I need from the donor auto? Panel with gauges, at least some of the wiring. I am not sure if the sending units would be metric.

Donor would be a Jeep Cherokee. I drive one a lot and it seems like it would fit the opening. I have not measured it yet. But the question would be the same. I would like a full package, tach, speedo, and the other stuff.

LMK.

Well most newer stuff is digital. You need some sort of computer control to use them.... More as I find out.

Most german manufacturers had VDO mechanical gauges from the factory. Looks like some of those would fit in the factory gauge openings with a little trimming...

Some where in storage I have a whole setup from a Porsche 914. It has a fuel gauge and someting else. Oil pressure? I will have to find it. I have sold all my VW's but 2 air cooled ones and they do not have anything. Off to the net I go.

Not entirely true. I do have my old mk ii scirocco auto cross car.

Mercedes seem to be the least expensive ones on eBay. Volvo too. When did we come out with obd1 or obd2. That would make a cluster want digital signals from a ECM I think. More research . I will have to get it little by little.

pretty sure obd2 became standard in 95-96, not sure when obd1 came about
for oil pressure and temps you can probably get away with using the sensors from the car tha gauge came out of, not sure about how you will have to set up the speedo unless it happens to be analog
