Is there any way to take the old sockets out or does the whole tail light piece have to be replaced? Really don't want to break something if I can help it.

Not that I have seen. I am sure it's possible but it won't be easy. I was thinking you could get put in sockets from a 67 mustang if you cut the hone correctly. I am sure other sockets could work but that was what came to mind.

Something like this, you can get them in duel filament too.

I have a old 53 chevy and the sockets were wasted. I picked up some at the parts house , cut them down and soldered the to the housing. they work great.

might want to spray some WD in the socket 1st to soak in and use some socket lube when you put then new bulbs in.
