Idea: To make an Amphibious LUV. or at least something that will get me over a short span of flooded road, short of just jacking it up to monster truck status, but perhaps thats my only option. Opinions? Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Let's kick this peanut around a bit shall we? :D

First need to find one that doesn't have massive rust holes in the floorboards. :P

How about you take a case or 2 of that spray on rubber stuff they use on tv with the screendoor on the bottom of a row boat? Spray the whole bottom and mid-way up the sides and you should be good to go. 8)

screen door? row boat? I clearly do not watch television. What is the name of this miracle spray of which you speak?

so uhh... does anyone think this will actually work? :) Maybe the luv is too heavy? I suppose I could rig a prop to the back and some pontoons on the sides eh? kinda defeats what Im going for tho... think the luv's reputation for being rust buckets to begin with hampers the whole idea? ^_^ Sure wish i was more inclined to this kind of stuff ... totally gettin' me some of that rubber seal if it works as good as it says :)

Nope it's just over-priced "Pan-seal" ... buy the $5 stuff at the auto parts store instead :) Still, what if I filled the hollow parts of the bed and fenders with spray foam and cover it with some rubberized seal, think the luv would float? :D

It may seal up the bottom but it isnt going to float without some help. You need something to offset the weight evenly or it will nose under and drown.
Maybe a removable pontoon on the front and back?

Is this a serious question? You want to drive a truck through a flooded street.

strangely enough it is actually a serious question, also I thought it might be fun to venture a little on to the absurd. But yes, I'm looking to move somewhere, where the road to work may flood once or twice a year tops and I just want to be prepared. As my Luv is the only truck i got, and my little car is not even an option really, (as it's just too low to the ground,) I thought this would be a fun idea. I'm thinking I don't want to put my luv through the riggors of this plan, as I let it sleep in the garage and I don't even drive it in the rain if I can help it. ^_^ Ultimately I might buy a beater jeep or something for this experiment, but for the sake of the LUV forum, lets assume I'm going to get some marine paint for the exterior and go for the Orange buoy colored "AquaLuv" :D
This thread is now called "Project AquaLuv" XD

Good Christ. I know of these rigs... yeah can't say I've got 200k laying around... Not to mention it doesn't look as cool as a LUV. :D
perhaps it doesn't need to float well, maybe just drive on TOP of the water? the trick is to cross semi short spans of road inundated by water, no more than a mile long I would THINK.

How deep of water are you talking about. You will need to change the exhaust as if the tailpipe gets under water your not going anywhere.

Now you want to build a LUV to drive on top of water. I'll take $20 of what ever you are smoking. Good luck to you.

You would want a snorkel on it so the motor doesn't drink any water, but I think the exhaust is fine under water unless the motor stops. Then it can be bad.

Vertical exhaust, might look kinda neat coming up between the cab and bed like on a semi...

High water running down a street will just make you have to move with current. No real control, the Luv does not weigh enough to overcome the water.

Things like the AmphaCar which are made for calm water. A WWII Duck will give you a better Idea
It is your truck to do with what you wish.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

So I should turn my luv in to a duck? weld massive steel panels to it? :D
What might be a solution to this? a giant 250hp motor on the tain end perhaps? :P
there must be a way to counter the possibility of moving water. though I think where the roads flood are relatively calm, not directly perpendicular to the flow of the river. I could be wrong.

just a example of a truck that floats and can overcome current. Look at some rescue videos, you mostly see army deuce and a quarters doing these jobs. I have seen them almost to the snorkel. Plowing will need some things to turn with like I had Super Swamper on my 4 wheelers. They would move water with them. 4x4 you can steer. I do not think you will find the answer you want here.

You might try here http://www.pirate4x4.com/ You hay get some hard answers there. Good 4x4 site.
