Was curious. I took my truck down to get the front aligned but they couldn't do it. Since I put the coil overs on I need to put longer bolts through upper A arm to get enough shims in.
Now I have to take my coils loose to move them out of the way to get the original bolts out. anyone else had that problem. I assume I need grade 8 bolts.

Thought I would have it driveable today but guess not. Got time to work on stuff now since I had my hours cut to 3 days a week for awhile,

That should not have made a difference in the number of shims, unless you did something else. When I did my mustang II spindle swap I used grade 8 allen head on mine, so I could access mine without removing the wheels...

I didn't think it would be that far off but I guess it was. I took the bolts loose on one side last night and added almost 1/2 shims in and the wheel is now straight up and down. The original bolts catch and almost go through the locking nut.

i too am going to put allen heads in to get through the springs. i did get mine loose without having to remove the spring top.

Well I got the socket head bolts. 3 1/2 inches long. I messed with the shims again. it looks as if I am needing almost 2 inches of shims in each side to get the wheels straight up and down. Seems a bit much. Should I use a solid plate added between the A arm and shock tower.
i haven't done anything else that I know of when I put the coil overs on. Could it be I didn't use heavy enough springs.

Thinking about finding a car to put my motor and tranny in if this becomes a problem

You are checking it with the tires on the ground?

Yes, I set it back down and then take a level and hold it up against the tire. think maybe if i put too short of coil set up on it would cause it to be this way

Removing the stock shock should not affect the camber, if nothing else was changed. If you did not replace the a arms, then it should not have affected it, IMO. Did you rebuild the front end or? What did you do besides the coil over swap?

Only thing I did was replace the ball joints. I set it back down yesterday and the side I have finishes is as close as you can get by eye to straight up and down now. I'll do the other side today and run it down the street and see how it goes.

after looking at the shims again I have over 1 inch is all which still seems like a lot. I guess when I get to switch to 5 lug I'll have to redo it again anyway. That will be awhile. Got cut back to 3 days a week at work which sucks. Should have stayed at my state job.
